M reg Disco 300tdi
1st Disco.
I've read the sticky.
When I bought this Disco it had ( still has ) white steel modular 16/7 wheels.
Tyres ... front ... 2 x ... Colway C_TRAX MT 265 / 75 / 16
back was ... 2 x ... GreenWAY BIG MACHO HARDRIDER 265 / 75 /16 M+S
As I say I've read the sticky ... but as far as I can see there are no cut aways or alterations on the panels and the suspension looks standard with no rises.
The spare is a KUMHO POWERGUARD AT 245 / 75 / 16
This morning it all went t!ts up. Took the wife work at 7am and it felt dreadful. Checked over car on her works car park and the rear nearside was virtually flat. So I changed that for the spare. Drove about 7 miles and parked up. Noticed rear offside was virtually flat. Oh bugger ... no more spare! I knew there were tyre places about a mile or so away. So I have to risk it. I get about half a mile and it's flat so I pull into a Mitsubishi dealers.
Guy in there was helpful and we put the original rear nearside on the rear offside as the rear offside tyre is now goosed ( it was badly cracked before it went flat and needed replacing as did the other BIG MACHO ). He inflates this tyre but you can hear it hissing. I set off to try and make it to tyre place down the road. I get to tyre place and have to wait an hour for them to open. They don't have anything in that size but tell me to try another place nearby and they re inflate tyre as it's now flat again. So I get to this other place ...
They also don't have anything in this size but he does say he has a used tyre @ £25 that will be fine and will be ok for me to get home and to call in and try other places on the way. So he fits a used NANKANG SPORTREX 235 / 70 / 16 106T M+S
I believe this is the standard size tyre.
On the way home I call in a few places and only 1 place has one suitable used tyre which is 265 / 75 / 16 ... but I need 2 as both rears have gone . He says he can get me 2 in tomorrow at 20 quid each.
However ...
Do I put 2 x 265 / 75 / 16 on the back so I'm that size all around?
Or do I fit 1 x 235 / 70 / 16 on rear ( to match the NANKANG fitted today ) and then match up to those when I change the fronts?
Or replace other 3 to 235 / 70 / 16?
The fronts have probably 5mm left on them ( 265 / 75 /16 ).
I don't do any off roading at the moment but love to have a go. I do do a lot of driving on turf but I'd imagine any Disco would cope. I also do a bit of driving on beaches but again my old cars would cope so any Disco will.
What do you think?
