I recently bought my first disco in November, it came with 3 new tyres and one at about 3mm, the 3 new ones are called 'Zetex Vigour A/T 235/70/16'. My issue is after emailing LOADS of companies and searching on google i cant find one anywhere! (if anyone knows where i could get one please leave a message saying where)

There seems to be loads of 225/70/16 but would this put my speedo out by too much? obviously i'd buy a pair but then id have 2 different sizes on it with a different rolling radius.

Hi....the tyre size's you have quoted only have different widths....

235/70/16' = Width-235.....trye wall size(or profile)-70......wheel size-16
225/70/16

Top set of tyres would just be wider than bottom set which doesn't affect the rolling radius.

Wrong, they're taller too - the profile is the SAME, the width is 10mm more so the circumference MUST be slightly more. Not much though, but enough to make a difference.
 
hi ,the 70 refers to the heigth of the tyre in relation to the width. It is usually shown as a percentage.So 70% of 225 is 157.5 and 70% of 235 is 164.5,so there is a total height difference of 7mm. hope this helps cheers elt.

What do you mean by "the tyre company doesn't bother/worry with it"?

They do bother - they sell tyres in both 225/70R16 and 235/70R16 sizes.
 
Sorry, i thought that you said that the profile or rolling radius does change when the tyre width changes but, the profile the first post spec'd was the same on both tyre widths...... and my thought is if manufactures don't change the profile size on the trye when the width changes does it make any real world difference that we could notice or the transmission would suffer from?

Pragmatically, probably not, but AFAIK no manufacturer ever fitted differently sized tyres each side of their car; and different sizes on the same axle is an MoT failure too (reason for rejection 4.1.1).

Given that the original poster is looking to buy a new tyre to replace a worn-out one, I could only recommend fitting the same size tyre as the other 3 on the car. It doesn't need to be more complicated than that.
 
My Bad...........which also means that if you are not in the know that you have to do some of your own maths in order to calculate what rolling radius you are ending up with (which of course changes as you use the tyre) you could indeed end up with all sorts......as i probably might have as the 18" hurricanes that came with my truck when i bought it are not the ones it was fitted with when new i don't think.....but do have all the same AT2's.
 
you dont need to calculate the rolling radius to know that different size tyres ion the same rims are different.

you obviuosly havnt understood what was posted above

simply the 70% sidewall height is relation to the width of the tyre..... so a 225/70/ 16 tyre has a smaller sidewall height than a wider 235/70/16 tyre has..... 7/10 0f 225 is less than 7/10 of 235
got it now? or doi need me pills aswell?
 
Haha, thanks guys, i knew that the sidewall would be taller but wandered if 2 of them on the back and 2 of the 235's on the front would be a crap idea, i would rather have all 4 the same.

Regarding the 'mytyres.com' link, iv emailed them 5 times and they reply to me saying 'as that brand isnt listed on our website im afraid we are unable to supply you with the tyre you have enquired about, please keep checking to see if we do get them in stock in the future'. The link takes you through to a 'top quality' tyre, this consists of mytyres sending me a tyre of that size but of no major brand and no confirmation of brand which they would send me out if i ordered,
ALSO i told them that once you have viewed the 'TOP QUALITY' tyre and return to their homepage, it actually lists in recently viewed products the Zeetex tyre i require, they have never mentioned why this is in their replies!

The link is for the Zeetex tyre. if you go to the link then go to their home page it lists the last tyre you looked at which is the Zeetex.
