Evening all. Quick post to circulate the outcome from my recent tyre swop. I expect this will flush out the usual "burn it mate" responses from the juniors!!!!!:welcome2:
Previously had a pair of half worn michelins on the back , and near bald wranglers on the front. I've been looking around and ended going for a full set of the new michelin latitude cross as it is a bit more mud bias than the usual AT fair. Could only find them at quik fit nearby at £100 ea. Traction control doesnt even come on in the snow now!
Michelin 4x4 Latitude Cross
Well pleased with the outcome, these tyres are quiet on the road, but have a much more open tread than most AT tyres. I mostly do on road, but dont want to get stuck onsite when I'm pulling transits out of the mud .
None of this is news, except the difference in the transmission / slow speed cornering. Previous tyres (more worn on front as manuals) the freelander nearly stopped dead on full lock! Now the slowing effect of the VCU is nearly non-detectable! Before someone says it - the tippex test is all clear!
I'll not be getting to the stage again with differently worn tyres even if they are within LR spec / distribution. The VCU will probably seize now as its not working as hard, but hey ho....
Can recommend these tyres if you are looking for a bit more than normal road bias, without the noise and lack of stopping ability of MT.
Hope this is helpeful.
Cheers.
