Im about to buy a set of 5 x BFG tyres and have the choice of two speed ratings...

Q - 99mph
S - 112mph

The 'S' tyres work out £50 more expensive for the set. Is it worth it considering I cant really get above 75mph anyway?

I think so. But I dont want to spend the best part of £800 (fitted) only to find that for the sake of an extra £50 I should have got the 'S'.

is there a difference other than the speed rating?

i don't know enough about it to give you a definative answer, yea or nae

What speed rating should standard tyres have? if you go for a lower rating than recommended for the vehicle your insurance company may have a 'get out of paying option' if something untoward were to happen (especially if you have a puncture related accident)?

I'll have to dig out my handbook and see what it says. Its a 1996 300tdi 110.

Thought the standard speed rating was 'Q' so you'll be fine with the lower cost ones (speed ratings increase as you head towards 'W'

112mph in a Fender - not for me !!!

I cant find any mention of sped ratings in the hand book? Anyone know what the required speed rating is on a 300tdi 110?

The problem is ensuring it at least matches LR's specified speed rating so that my insurance stays valid. I assume Q (99mph) rating is more than sufficient.
