Whats bigger 31.10.50/15 or 265/75/15 and will these fit my series landy also can anyone tell me how the 31.10.50/15 works

if yu google almost any tyre site they will tell ya - or look in the Q's and A's bit on here - there is a fred.

Usually they work by being attached to a wheel (steel or aluminium) which is driven though a gearbox from an injun. As the tyre goes around, this normally propels the vehicle in either a forward or rearwards direction, depending on the direction of the wheels to which the said tyre is attached.

I think wikipedia has some areas of assistance in this respect.;)

useful info cheers. I always wondered what the equivelant of 7.5 x 16 is (190/100/r16 apparently!)

I guess next question is the biggest you can fit on a series without mods 235?

Thats what the website said when i clicked calculate. I must admit i didn't mean anything to me either!!

So if 235 is the equivalent, what will fit on! 265? And will these go on standard Landy 16's?

235/85R16 will fit on LWB rims, 265's will need a wider rim. 7" disco steels are perfect fit without rubbing as offset is good, ideally longer studs though.

FFS tyres is sized like this 235 / 75/ 16 = tyrewidth / tyre wall height as a percentage of tyre width / rim diameter.

So 235/75/16 = 235mm wide by 176.25mm(75% of 235mm) tyre wall height on 16" rims which gives yer an overall tyre size of 176.25x2 = 352.5mm (13.88"+ 16" = 29.88" or 29" to make it simpler.

Good info...I understand the normal sizes but how does that compare to the 31.10.50/15 bit above (which was the original question!)

FFS does yer mummy still spoon feed yer? Apply some thought to the matter. Firstly which is the largest number ?? Chances are that'll be the tyre diameter. So 31.5 then, now is that likely to be metric or imperial? If metric that would be about 12.5" so Imperial then? Right by a process of eliminination we can deduct that the tyres diameter is 31.5".

So now onto the width. Given that you now know (from reading previous post) that metric tyres use the 2nd figure to represent a percentage of the tyre width. how wide would 10.5% of 31.5" Yes that's right 3.2" (approx.) So obviously this rule doesn't work with imperial tyre sizes. Sooooo we can now deduct that 10.5 is probably the actual width of the tyre so 31.5/10.5/15 is going to be 31.5" in diameter, 10.5" wide and fitted to a 15" rim.

Here endeth the lesson for today..:D :D

Nope it wasn't that obvious as its nothing like the tyre sizing i'm used to, but thanks for the info...Despite the patronising manor in which it was presented! Typical Radio Ham!!:D

Will 31.10.50/15 fit on my series ?????

To save Pikey bustin sumthin.

There are two types of people.
those that understand tyre sizes
and those who don't

Those that don't and may not understand the answer they get of those that do. Please do a search here there anywhere.

If all else fails have a look at wot other people are runnin.:D :D
