Hey all. I've currently got 17" alloys on my freelander 1 with very small tyres, traction on them is pathetic even with plenty of tread. I'd love some chunkier tyres like the grabber all terrains. Can anyone advise on what sizes would be the most suitable for the car and what sort of cost id be looking at ?

Thanks in advance all ☺

Chunky yes but grabbers no way. Far to uncivilized for road use imo. Grabbers are old technology tyres that aren't a patch on modern rubber.

I've currently got 225/60/17 Maxxis Bravo AT on my HSE Trek rims. They fit with room to spare, but are much like the Grabbers in manors and noise. If I was buying 17" tyres again, I'd go for Yokohama Geolanders in 225/65/17.
I'm just about to fit some Sport rims which will have 235/55/18 Cooper CS4 tyres. Hopefully they'll be on by the end of the weekend.

Thanks for the info would love to see those on the car. First time with a landrover and just wanted something to make it stand out a bit more tbh lol

Look at the Muddy Mods web site. Warren (proprietor of MM) has done stuff to his Freelanders that makes them stick out a mile.;)

I had general grabber at2 tyres years ago. They were orrible. Mpg dropped by something like 1.5 which is a lot if yer only doing 18mpg.

The constant drone even at low speeds was annoying. In the end I took them oft and sold them cheap to someone who wanted them. Warned him but he already had them before so knew what to eggspect.

As said above they're sh*te in normal road use but oft road they were great. I only do a small % of yearly miles oft road for fun so I got rid. The FL suspension can't take out the vibration they cause. I remember the tyre fitter asking why I'd bought them... Never again

I was having similar problems with my Maxxis Bravo AT. As the tread got used up, the drone got louder. They gripped will enough to drive the car in a spirited fashion, they were just noisy.
The Coopers I've replaced them with are lovely and quiet, so I'm happy now. :)
