Hi, can anyone offer me any advice on this.. I've got a set of general grabber AT2's (all terains) on my freelander TD4 (03 plate) tryes are about 5 months old. My wife being a great driver drove into some undergroth, hit something and took a big chunk out of the side wall of the front passengers side trye. I wasn't amused! My question is will i do any harm to the cars running gear if i just go and get a part worn road trye as a cheap fix for now then replace it with another AT2 in a few months when i can afford it? does it matter that a part worn road tyre will have alot less tread than a nearly new all terain?
Thanks, Chris.

How much of a chunk and from where? Theres a lot of spare rubber on them so some chunks out of certain areas don't matter!? Obviously some do! Have it checked by someone reputable who doesn't sell tyres, as they will try to sell you one regardless:)

Dont mix the tyres on a freebie deffo not on the same axle you will shred a diff or worse, really im told (by my nephew machnic anong others) tread should be kept within 3mm of each other..
Also my other nephew bought a rreebie that was on 4 diff tyres and his rear diff exploded-not saying that was deffo the cause but bet it didnt help.. , remoulds are cheap enough if your worried about it i got my new boots for £200 and there good chunky tyres.

Can't believe some one would ask if they can run an almost new AT and a worn road tyre on the same axle, never mind on the same car.

don't do it fella, going to start causing all kinds of transmission issues if you do.

buy 2 new AT's and put them on the back. sounds a lot, but not as much as a diff, VCU and IRD if it all goes pete tong.
