The muddiest driveway in Essex
hey guys
my mates got an FL1 TD4 with 18"s & tarmac tyres; standard suspension.
He wants a spare winter set for laning etc.
I told him to look for 16" wheels but Im not sure what tyres/sizes he can fit on before rubbing?
What make/size do you guys run on FL's for mud etc???

cheers dudes

Just before Christmas I fitted a set of BF Goodrich ATKO 215/70R16 to my 2001 TD4 and she is running like a dream, i used to have Wranglers on and they were terrible.

Not sure if I have done the right thing but I would say that she is also a lot quieter. Now I just have to try and find out what this hissing noise is at about 2200 rpm in all gears. But thats a whole other matter.

Hope that has helped.

Mark

The hissing only started yesterday, I have done nearly 1k since they have been fitted, why should it start all of a sudden?

Turbo perhaps?

Turbo perhaps?

Yeah I wondered that, i'm not mechanically minded but have been looking on here and then under the bonet and have found a split in one pipe, Air cleaner-to-intercooler hose, but not sure if that will affect it. Hopefully someone will correct me.

Thanks anyway

Had a pipe split on my td4 on the way home from the lakes dragging the tin tent back home. Turned out to be a spilt in the small 90 degrre elbow pipe from the intercooler to the egr and manifold. This made a whooshing sort of noise and also lots of nice smoke too when pulling under load also noticed some loss of power. The split was underneath the pipe and not visible at first but the nice green flag man found it straight away and said its common on these. The oil carry over from the breather or turbo eventually knackers the rubber pipes and causes them to split. Then you loose boost pressure and unmetered air or whatever screws the fueling map and hence lots of black smoke. Fixed straight away with new pipe 4.99 from LR dealers in Doncaster.

As for tyres? Going to need some new ones this year. Synchrones on it when I got it and Ive done 25k in it and they are still holding out but going to need some soon. They seem good though but was interested to see comment on scorpions strs as these seem more available and a lot cheaper.

Hippos been good during all this recent snow! Love it! no knobs to twiddle or levers to pull. What a pain in the arse that would be. Just keep driving! crossing often from reasonably treated highway to untreated snow and ice covered back roads, fenland tracks and droves and its great. Just drive on in confidence.

Thanks for that. All sorted now. Not sure if I should have but I also had a software update for my auto box. It does feel loads better.

As you say, loving the snow, especially with my new tyres. What are you going for?

What did you mate go for Foss?
