hi guys, Ladies,
I have 2005 L322 Range Rover Vogue TD6 which lovingly stopped working on the roundabout at Gatwick North Terminal. Swiftly hitting the yellow "I've broken down" flashers, I coasted to the other side of the roundabout and came to a halt. It's amazing how much abuse you are given when your treasure will not go any further. Anyway I pushed, yes pushed my range into the Shell garage and called RAC. Almost 12 hrs later my rangie was delivered home.
Car cut out and would not start and still will not start. I have checked all fuses and renewed relay to fuel pump.changed the battery, completed hard reset, tested fuel pumps. Here's the strange thing, when the ignition is on I can hear the pump in the tank work but not the secondary pump underneath. If I bridge the relay I can hear the secondary pump running but car will not start. Any ideas?

Firstly i would check for a hernia !
The other firstly is always diagnostics in my book as Ant says but not much help if you haven't go any.
Noid lights are a cheap way to see if you injectors are getting a signal, and have you checked in the engine compartment fuse box / relays?
leak off test another way of seeing what fuel is doing.
There is a tonne of info in rave workshop and system description and operation manual but diagnostics would save you a load of time.
Fuel gauge not stuck ...?

Blimey! Thanks guys, so much info to check. I will get onto this tomorrow. Need my girl back & running. Keep you posted.
Thanks Holidaychicken, I've got Rave but didn't see this.

There is rave repair manual and a separate system description and operation and then all the electrical stuff is in the L322 electronics library if you have a quick google. There is a good layout of the diesel system but as Saint said, diagnostics is always a very good start. Do you have touchscreen sat nav ?
Do you have any diagnostics ?
Roughly where in Kent are you ?

Hi Holidaychicken,
Yes I have touch screen sat nav and have diagnostics I have borrowed but shows no codes as It is not a Test4 or anything elaborate. I am in Sheppey.

The touch screen bit is a pain as it means the Allcomms diagnostic I have won’t work if it’s the Landrover fitted one, if you look at you vin number I think if you look at the last 8 digits if it starts with a a 5 followed by a letter the Allcomms works but yours is probably a 6. It works up to 5A99999 or something like that.
Your temp gauge shoots straight over when cranking and didn’t before ?

Forgot to say fuel gauge is normal but temp gauge shoots over to red hot.
I don't know if the engine ECU uses the same signal as the gauge, but if the ECU thinks the engine is red hot it may have shut down for safety, so could be a duff sensor or a simple wire off problem. Not that I know anything about the L322, the are like Ticks, blood sucking things best avoided.

I am just going out to check everything out, I will report back any findings. Thanks again Holidaychicken and you seem to be so right Datatek, real blood sucker. Back soon.

Holidaychicken my vin last 8 digits start 5A and temp gauge goes hot when ign on not cranking. Datatek you are so right, bloodsucking varmit.

If it goes straight to red then I would say Datatek is right....I don't think the engine shuts down for protection (could be wrong) but I do know that it will probably not start as the fuel map will be totally wrong for cold starting as the engine thinks it is super hot and as such the fuelling will be different.

I hap this on my V8 L322, the temp sensor wire was chaffed and shorting out, the ECU thought the engine was stupid hot and as such wouldn't start, there was fuel as I could smell in on the plugs, but the system adjusts some many things, like when to inject, how much to inject, how much air is required, how much secondary air is required (during cold start), RPM control, VANOS angle to include etc etc for different starting conditions, and it just was all wrong for starting a cold engine when it thought it was hot.....repaired the wiring and bingo she fired up!

The TD6 i was infected with has cleared up and gone now, think rightful owner is chugging away happily in it as far as i know.
This is the closest i can find to your woes, from memory the stat is tucked down the front of the engine and has the sender on it.
My temp gauge had a turn once and allcomms sorted it out, but mine would still start on my V8
My TD6 rave has packed so just reloading it

the Engine Coolant temperature appears to be tucked under the right hand side of the inlet manifold, but not easy to see from the pic

Guys
Just so that you know, haven't had a chance to look at the car as I have started my night shift, 12hr shifts, great. Won't be able to look until Wednesday, I'll keep you updated. Really need allcoms but will persevere. So much agro getting to a sensor and then that may mot be the problem. Hey ho! Be in touch soon.
Nige.

I don't recall if holidaychicken has allcoms but he did ask where in Kent you are. So he might know someone who has. Or you stick a plea for help up in Regional LZers, see f someone is nearby with Allcoms. I believe the usual payment/temptation is coffee and cake .

Thanks Goldrover,
Yes Holidaychicken did say he had Allcoms but I believe he had not uploaded td6 module. I will take your advice. Thanks again.
