can you give some more information on the moving mounting blocks lower or higher idea, sounds like i could give that one a go! thanks for all advice once again!

the spring mounting on the axle is as low as it can be, the way to get more hight is 1ton shackles, i have these fitted to my 109" they give you about an inch of extra hight, but you need to fit extended bump stops. you can get extended shackles on e-bay but they are made of mild steel and i wouldn't trust them i would prefer it if they were made of high tensile steel, i am thinking about getting a set made for me. for that i will need a bump stop spacer and extended shocks (+4)

As far as i know there are two things you can do with leave springs (not sure if it applies to all landys) these are;

swap the metal (leaves?) round so the top one goes on the bottom and the bottom one on the top etc.

or

move the mounting blocks lower or higher on the axel increasing or decreasing the ride height.

I think the first one is what the guy was talking about as its quite had to convay and understand, it does give a stiffer ride and some other beifits that escape me at the moment, however i would'nt bother with it.

M_O

Never heard of swapping the leaves round, so no idea what effect it would have on the ride, but it would still lower the vehicle, not lift it.

Hey you guys stop taking the ****! For all we know Hyland could be a tobacco chewin Texan redneck for whom a spring over axel conversion would be perfect. If you're British Hyland, then a more appropriate and simpler way to make your Landy easier to roll over would be to go for the expedition look by fitting a full length roofrack and filling it with spare wheels and cans of fuel and water.;)

im not looking for an expedition vehicle just more height, and im definately 100% british beef. just answer the ****ing question i hate how bull **** there is flying around on this forum, just sucks that you lot seem to be the only ones that know what there talking about. Anyone know where i can buy 1 ton shackles that isnt ebay?

Is a tad different to ..

i thought the guys on the forum will laugh at me for asking this but there we go im prepared for it this time

;)

Army surplus, Withams, Paddocks, Craddocks, ads in all the Landy mags, where have you asked for them?

Your original question was a bit daft so you got a bit of **** taken, which you said you expected and could handle, then you go all iffy and now you expect more help on a different matter?

Why not do a bit of research yourself? If you'd said "I've looked at Z,Y and X, shackles and they're all a bit different, which work best for general use" you might have got a different answer ... prolly still a ****-take but wdye? As it is you ask for a piece of string, you get a few answers ... which might not be the answers you want. Your issue, deal with it. ;)

Sorry hyland... I just couldn't resist it;) - it would be boring if all Landies were the same. From your avatar it looks like your Landy is a bit low, I think the springs might be a bit past their best, esp the front ones - there should be about 3 1/2 to 4 inches clearance between the bump stops and the front axel. Have you bashed the cross member under the gearbox or something? - I had a little sob when I did that myself on the first greenlaning trip after I built up the Yellow-Rover (new chassis too:mad: ). I've just ordered some new rear springs - not looking forward to that job because every single bolt is seized into the bushings, so I'm going to have to hack saw through all of them and replace the bushes in the spring hangers.

haha sorry about the erm previous attitude, i had a very bad morning to put it lightly!! cheers fenby for the advice and to everyone else thats helped! (i did compliment as well as have attitude if you look very closely - "you lot seem to be the only ones that know what there on about")

right now iv found some, i have no idea what to buy.... on paddocks for example theres no simple 1 ton shackles!! theres the plates and then come front, back, threaded, not threaded etc so what parts do i need to buy if i want a simple 1 ton shackles set up!?

you'd need to buy a complete set, it's the same for the 88/109 - some of the shackles have threaded holes, some have clearance some have spacers welded on

find a parts book and look up the various parts numbers or call craddocks and tell them you need a complete set

Have a read of this discussion if you haven't already

Personaly I would not fit them to the front because they will alter the steering geometry and the propshaft angles will be messed up. I've not done it myself though and other people who have posted on the thread seem to think it works well.

I'd give this thread some consideration too

I'm not taking the **** now: It sounds like you might be fairly inexperienced at tinkering with cars so it would be a good idea to get an expert to check that any mods or repairs you do, especially to suspension, steering and brakes are safe.

O.K. sorry if my last comment was a bit patronising:) I could scan the relevant pages of the parts catalogue and PM them to you if your parts supplier does not have packaged kits and you need to know all the part numbers. The parts catalogue is extremely useful for both part numbers and exploded diagrams if your going to do a lot of tinkering (or if you ever want to catch Sean out.:D :D )

option 1 - let fenby waste his time finding and scanning the correct page
option 2 - download the entire manual (like what normal people do)
