Turning circle

Hi everyone
I have just got a 1989 V8 RR and to me the turning circle is very big (too big i think)
It has big tyres and what i think are 3 degree correction radius arms.
If i adjust how far the wheels can turn the tyres hit the radiul arms.
Would wheel spacers help this or is there something elce i need to do?
Any advice.
 
You'll be searching for a long time to find another live axled 4x4 that will turn inside a standard RRC. Wide tires can make a big difference though.
There are stop nuts on the inside of each hub that you can adjust until the wheel rubs the radius arm but thats it without fitting wheel spacers.
 
Forgive me, but i am still trying to work that statement out.:D:D:D

Yeah, I'm kinda scratching my head at that one too, I'm not arguing just can't make out how it could help.
Experience with 4WD tractors would counter the statement but it was always as a result of the larger wheels hitting the chassis rather than a function of the wheel size. They did everything they could with mad castor angles to try and get the wheel to tuck under the chassis.
 
OK, originally read this in one of the landy mags and thought it was b*ll*cks but thinking it through (I think) works out.

outside of circle turns faster than inside, hence larger diameter wheels turn further for a given rotation, which is why if you fit bigger wheels, your speedo needs recalibrating as it counts rpm to work out speed (I think).

OK again i think that given this, provided the wheel corner angle remains the same, and the centre of the wheel turns at the same speed the larger wheels will travel further .... B*LL*CKS it was an article on saving fuel :eek:

Ok no problem. But the physics are that if you have a two foot wheel set at an angle that describes a say 30 foot arch. A three foot wheel set at the same angle will still travel in a 30 foot arch but wil take less revolutions to complete it. So large or small for a given angle the turning circle is the same. Also a larger wheel is likely to hit bodywork before it can reach the angle the smaller wheel can achieve.

less revolutions same distance, exactly as you described and I nearly got round to, before beating myself about the head for being so stupid. :D

I even did a physics degree back in the day!!!

Everybody makes mistakes mate, i have been married and divorced twice. And bigger and more expensive mistakes than that are unimaginable.
