could be as james says, might be crank sensor,or maybe a fuel pump/pressure regulator.
best thing to do is ask this guy to list (or give you the printout from the diagnostic and get back to us , there a good few on here with vast experiance with landys and td5 . ;)

Yes, just had a major service before I brought it. Purchased it from my brother-in-law. He looks after his cars very well. That's why I brought it.

the faults havent been cleared, the record of what the various sensors give when something amiss called fault codes which are stored so can be read to help diagnose a problem have been cleared ,and will need to be read again ,for instance if a code that was to do with the amount of air going into engine you would look at relavent sensors and also things like turbo wastegate seizing thus allowing over boost or blocked air filter ,poor pipe etc,i woulkd recommend anyone to buy their own hawkeye or similar so that you can read codes ,even if you dont understand someone here will cheaper in long run,i would look up seized wastegate on here and try that first ,then get codes read and come back with them ,you may have a good man helping you or he could just change everything till he gets it and you a large bill

On the computer this morning it had about 3pages of faults, some saying stuff like tachograph. He said this is normal and just cleared them. I asked if we took it for a drive and it done it, would it show up. He said no, and come back in a couple of weeks.
I'm sorry if I'm a total novice.

there allways is alot of codes that arent relavent as voltage is read by ecu ,flat battery or low battery during starting will give faults that arent faults in a real sense, how much did check cost ? but if you have a porblem either a fault code would come up on test drive if symptoms appeared or would have be seen in live data

Didn't charge me anything. Got the feeling he wasnt that interested in doing anything today. Thanks for the advice

could be bloody anything on a td5 id get back to the garage and study the diagnostic report or if you put your loaction someone local may be able to help, and the person who scanned your td5 was he a land rover agent? if not just a car garage there diagnostic kit does not cover half of what a land rover main dealer diagnostic does

Seriously that £500 is a drop in the ocean, expect a lot more costs if your a landy owner.

Can I just clear this up. I've been on this forum twice. Once to join and then today. I put in the details of my landy etc the first time. I've no idea how this forum works or less so how my defender works. Like the previous thread said, I've only posted/ threaded 7 times. I'm not an expert in landys, so you may need to give me some leeway. As you can imagine 4 weeks after I purchase the car I'm possible looking at £500.
