wolf, you defender sounds ... dont take this the wrong way...

feckin awful.

Its loud as hell, sounds like there is a huge hole in the exhaust. I couldnt be arsed to read through the thread as its past cinderella time, but it dunt sound right!

wolf and his shed :crazy_driver:

i'd be up for fiddling with it if you ever get up this way

ive been busy collecting oil, over newcastle way.

Did you know there is a road sign .. the triangular one with red border which says

"SMOKE!"

I was really bored as the radio dont work in the pajero.

anyway, running on the veg wont be helping you if your truck is semi fooked you know. Your fender sounds like a chavs punto at mcdonalds on friday night!

It's a 200tdi lol they're renowned for being noisy as hell. And its actually quieter now, quieter than the 300s we have at work believe it or not. No holes in the exhaust and bar this recent problem it's running perfectly fine. As I said the head gasket could probably do with being replaced though

has this only started happening since you fitted the 1.2 xfer?

Nope, before then. I didn't get that fitted until after I started running on veg and it was happening before that. I'm positive it's an air leak but where from is a mystery. I can hear the turbo whistling and I lose power at high revs, that's bout it in a nutshell

recheck intercooler and manifold gasket for blowing or just get a new gasket from work ;)

Lol we've got some bits but not everything. If its from a 2.5na or 300tdi and interchangeable with a 200tdi then I'm in luck but we dont hold a lot of spares. Manifold gasket will go on the shopping list, it certainly can't hurt.

Oh one thing I noticed tonight when I revved it at idle was that when the revs are dying down you can hear a whistling tailing off too. Sounds like it's coming from the right side of the engine bay (brake servo side) though I'm inside the vehicle so can't tell

probably wind going through all the rusty holes in ya shed

Well i just realised that I could use breather pipe to replace the turbo to injection pump hose so ill do that and if its still not sorted then ill get the intercooler out this weekend and check that

Turbo to injection pump hose has been replaced and its still the same so it wasnt that. Im started to get annoyed and totally bloody stumped because i havent a clue as to whats causing it. I dont think its the turbo at all and i dont know where else to look for air leaks. To try and describe it better its as if something is holding the vehicle back, the revs go up and the turbo runs fine in conjuction with the revs but they will climb and climb whereas the vehicle just wont speed up at all. This is most noticeable in 1st gear but happens throughout the whole gear range. It runs perfectly at low revs but as soon as i need a bit of power e.g. going up a hill or speeding up on a slip road ive got absolutely nothing. Its kind of like when your fuel filter needs replacing and the vehicle doesnt wanna hit 60 but will hold back. Ive ran redex through it twice, ive ran the tank dry and refilled completely, ive changed the fuel filter, ive recently did an oil and oil filter change, transfer box is new as is the oil in it.

Any more ideas?

Waste gate is fine. Tried to get the screws out to have a look at the boost diapraghm and the buggers were absolutely solid so i gave up before i risked chewing them to bits. Ill get some hex heads bolts to replace them with and get the screws out to have a look

It's started juddering a wee bit when pulling away in first but that's it, clutch will need done soon but I don't think it's that bad just yet. If the clutch was slipping surely there would be more/different symptoms than a lack of power though.

Anyone know if I can order a replacement boost diapraghm incase mine is split? Also what about the diaphragm in the wastegate being split? Is that a possibility?

just pull the hose off and try driving. it'll run lean top end. if there's no difference, then then there's your issue.

revs rise and no speed? if you put it in 5th at idle and raise the clutch.. does it stall?

you've skipped a few things mentioned above.. has someone fiddled with your pump btw? also i'd recheck the timing.

checked fuel tank filter? kicnked hoses? maybe it's time to get the injectors tested?
