Hi,

I just went approx 5 miles down duel carriage way flat out at 80MPH (just to see how fast she went).

When I got off duel carriageway I noticed that when i accelerated to the point where the turbo would normally kick in, it revs high for a few seconnds then 'kicks' in.

I got back waited few mins turned engine off, restarted engine about 5mins later, went down road all fine then went back on duel carriageway and it started happening again...I was struggling to get past 30MPH!!!

Any ideas on what I have done?!?!?!
Is it simply case of letting the turbo cool down???

200Tdi engine

Cheers (one very worried owner!!!)

Probably split the diaphragm in the lift pump so it's not able to supply enough fuel at high rpm or wide throttle openings.

The faster you go, the faster bits will drop off or wear out...

Just been down in it now and it all seems fine. Must of overheated the turbo...thankfully seems not to of done any lasting damage!!

Overheated the turbo? What did you do? Melt the fecker?

I've had mine glowing bright enough to light the engine bay after dark before now using it for towing(dragging) a 3 tonne concrete roller across a muddy field.

Very much doubt you got the turbo too hot just with a quick blat down a dual carriageway at full chat - unless there's no oil in it.

God only knows what occured! Was a turbo fault though as it would spin really fast then the power would kick in about 3 secs later. Once engine was shut off for an hour everything seemed to resolve itself....???

It could be the waste gate opened up a bit more than it would usually because of the high speed and it jammed open a bit. So the exhaust was getting dumped and increasing the spin up time.

It could then have overcome this jam.

I wouldn't have though that it would have been too hot, they are designed to get pretty fookin hot.

i had the same prob when i blanked off my egr on a 300tdi . you use to get to kick in point thn it would whizz around and whirl and scream . i was well worried . but it turned out id not tightened up a jublille clip up enuf that solved it .

Cheers everyone. I will have to do some tests when I get a chance...the fact she runs very happy at 60mph and will overtake at 70mph fine (just rather noisey!!) must mean there cant be very much wrong. Maybe just old age or something?
