Hi folks,

Apart from after a complete stripdown, does the turbocharger in a 200Tdi
need repriming after a long time idle ? This new engine I have picked up
hasn't been run in a year.

Thanks

Personal opinion, As long as your not thraping it when it fires up and your
oil pressure light is rigged up then just go with the flow dude.

Realistically it will have sorted it's self anyway by the time you get the
air out of the rest of the system.

It's not a silly idea. However I'd be priming the whole engine - by
whipping the glow plugs out, disconnecting thestop solenoid wire and
spinning it on the starter until it builds oil pressure. By that time
the turbo will be primed too.

The 200Tdi WILL self prime will it ? The V8 wouldn't would it ?

Your V8 had a turbo? .... and you pulled it out......?

:p

V8 oil pumps don't normally self prime and need packing with petroleum jelly
if thats what you mean.

Never heard any isues of 200tdi's priming their pump. Has the engine got oil
in? The way I read it it had just been stood as opposed to drained.

Yes.

You're right. Just stood, AFAIK.

I've heard of a 200 TDi which survived idling for about half an hour with
the vehicle on its side...

meanwhile... start it at idle, or prime the oil system as EMB suggests, and
don't rev it for a minute or so.

Ta,
I now have TWO 200Tdi plants to play with - my infamous rebuild project
and one I picked up on Saturday, Rather than bugger about fitting them
to the 101s and then finding out there's a problem, we're making up a
test stand to mount them on and crank 'em up.

It's a very wise idea. Undo the oil inlet banjo and squirt some oil into
the inlet. Don't be stingy - squirt lots in.

The advice on priming the whole engine (i.e. filling all the oil
galleries) is sound. Let the engine idle for a bit once started.

Lee is just bitter as he can't manage to get a v8 into a 2A :p

It's in.... but it's gotta come out again, and given how long it all took
the first time around (Jag lump) then don't hold yer breath :)

What? How many engine swaps can one car have?

You DO know that you can put petrol in the hole on the side don't you?
There's no need to pull the engine out and squirt it back up the
pipe...

so this ain't normal petrol station practice then? ...

Now a V8 nestling on the auto, buggering chassis beat me to it though.
