Hi,

I have a strange problem. The pipe going from the turbo to the diesel pump in my 300TDI defender keeps getting a puncture just after the turbo connection. The only explanation for me is that the air must be super hot and blows a hole!

As an experiment I lined the inside of the first 3 centimeters with rolled metal plate, and wrapped the pipe in duct tape, still there is a hole after the metal lining about 4 cm after the connection at the turbo end.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? :confused:

I may have messed up the terminology. I think I am referring to the boost pipe between then turbo and fuel pump.

Any ideas.
 
Here are the two photos. I realise the turbo is a bit oily. I also have new silicon hoses which I will fit a bit later. The question is primarily about the booster pipe. You will notice a bit of oil getting to the point where the puncture is created (oil does not reach the fuel pump). Perhaps the pipe does not like the hot oil and pressure combination.

I hope this is the case. I was wondering if anyone knows how hot the air should be?

I assume since there is no actual flow through the booster pipe, and the pressure is 1 bar (I assume) it feels like heat/oil is the only explanation. I will get a silicon pipe or a fuel type pipe, but really I do not know what it is supposed to be. If I can find a metal pipe I may do the first halve with metal, and the last part with silicon or fuel pipe.

I am fed up with this stupid pipe. The tip of the pipe (as shown above) also shrinks after a few minutes and narrows. Must be the ****-est pipe that Nene Overland had laying around, or something serious is wrong with my turbo and it is spewing fire. :mad:
 
I am stuck in Turkey with a broken booster pipe, a broken half shaft (which was welded in Russia but already showing cracks), disk brakes with 1% left on the pads and some super noisy fan belt or pulley bearing. Tomorrow is going to be fun day shopping for parts and trying not to get ripped off :brushteeth:
 
thats why I mentioned a leak, if there is not a flow of air the heat should not travel up the pipe so much

try a different pipe if all else is ok

I used some normal 6od air hose for my boost pressure gauge and never had a problem with that
