Yesterday on the motorway I saw a Disco towing a large aircraft engine. It wasn't commercial airliner size but it was still big. It was uncovered and as he was moving forward the airflow through the turbine was causing the propeller/impeller (whatever its called) to turn, as you would expect. Now, if he were going fast enough and airflow was sufficient would this give him any additional boost or am I a retard with absolutely no grasp on how aircraft engines work?

That last bit is rhetorical.

hth!

they wouldnt burn fuel in them if they did, without it can only add drag

Technically.. upon deceleration of said vehicle, if the turbines compressor was spinning it would apply a teeny bit of thrust due to movement of air.. but then it would quickly stop

so no :)

as mentioned, at all other times its just additional drag.

Hmmm... goes searching for Russian surplus helicopter jet engines.... :cool2: :cool2: :scratching_chin:

Reconfigure the entire interior, have the jet exhaust cunningly disguised within a centrally mounted spare wheel cover ;) ;)

Check out the turbo whistle on THAT! :D

i really need to flog my spare turbine. would make a fun project on the back of a kiddies go kart or something.

just hope the trailored turbine still had its oil pump doing its job...

once upon a time, one of my jobs was machining gearbox halves for R/R aerospace
(flying parts) reduction drives off of the main turbine, even done some work on there oil tanks.
all from cast magnesium componants....bloody stuff...lol

heard of a guy locally with a small jet engine mounted on the back of his push bike, would take it down the pub and back thing was bloody fast and loud went like a rocket:D

Who just has a spare turbine kicking about? lol.

Got a here you could buy if you fancied a project ;)

got a what?
whats wrong with having a spare turbine kicking about... salmonds prerogative aint it?

if you aint got a turbine you aint jock!
