Finally got the OK from the insurance company to modify my 2003 Td4 so I am resurecting the project. Bit puzzled about the both the EGR bypass and the Tuning box.

There appears to be two EGR bypass modules on e-bay, one black laquered and one stainless steel and both slagging each other off. On the face of it the stainless should be better but knowing the problems with welding this material anybody have an opinion which to go for.

Tuning-diesels for cheaper diesel tuning. seem to be quite authoratative on the Td4 and push the Synergy 2 but a general search reveals many others at distinctly varying prices from slightly cheaper to nearly 3 times the price. As they all seem to produce about the same levels of improvement any one have an idea what the differences are?

problems when welding stainless

OK things have improved since I did welding as an apprentice (badly) but it still requires specific techniques to do a good job.:(

not really mate:p only specific to the food industry ie purging pipes and so on for a 100% sealed join
as for an egr valve stuff like that is not critical :D

Get the synergy 2 from Ron ( tuning-diesels) and the original powder coated egr bypass from Dave Lyon (evotomturbo) the others are just copies of his idea.

These are the two products that are tried and tested by many of us and nobody to my knowledge has ever had a bad word to say about either of them.

Ron will answer any questions re settings or other issues you may have with the synergy.
As for the bypass i can't see the need or advantage of using stainless. It's really only a hose connection in a rather oily inlet tract.

The other worry with the stainless one is that one member reported that it came fitted with a small pipe union for a boost gauge which the seller tried to persuade him to connect his egr vacuum pipe to - not a good idea. The one you want will either have a very thin solid bar fitter which plugs the vacuum pipe or if it's an earlier design like mine then nothing at all & you just plug the pipe yourself. Speak to Roverron at Tuning diesels, he knows his stuff & don't buy the rally cheap crappy chips off ebay. Some have been known to blow the ecu. The Synergy unit is a good reliable piece of kit even recommended by Car Mechanics Magazine who tested & ran one in their Rover 75 some years back.

I must admit that I was leaning towards the Synergy 2 as the backup seems to be very good on RoverRons site and he is recommending the black EGR bypass from Dave Lyon. Just seems odd that others are charging over £400 for essentially the same a his unit.
