There's a guy on eBay doing tubular winch bumpers for Disco 1 for £99. They look a bit rubbish though. Also it doesn't wrap around, so its not going to protect the corners of the vehicle much:

Yeah that does look naff, there was someone on ebay selling the wrap-around ones a while back (made originally for the D2) but wanted £180 for it ... and you had to trim the wing's to get it to fit properly on a D1. For that much dosh I'd expect it to bolt straight on.

That looks **** the drivers side is an inch or two higher than the passanger side i could make a better one myself!

Thought this thread was going to be a new Mike Oldfield album inspired by landys

Those £99 ones look ****ty and dangerous, the ends look like they could be quite sharp.

I think its a case of "you pays your money and takes your choice". In other words, some bumpers are cheap/expensive for a reason. (Also worth saying, some bumpers which are £300 are not significantly different to another at £185).

In fairness the bumper itself is probably straight, but not been fitted very accurately.

I wanted a cheap heavy duty bumper a while back. In the end, I realised that the ones around £100 and the eBay specials were lacking, either in looking crap or not wrapping around the sides, ie not offering protection to the corners. In the end I spent £175 on one of these:

Mine was £149 + VAT (free delivery), although I notice they've put the price up to £165 + VAT now.

I also gave in to temptation and bought a winch (got a VERY good price though).

The good thing about that bumper is it recesses the winch so it doesn't really protrude much, thus not affecting the approach angle significantly. Some people might not want to cut up their grille to get the winch in, but I like the winch further back.
