how did you bend the pipe mate?

i did'nt mate iannotts made it for me but got a bit carried away and decided i needed to beef the bracketry up in line with my driving style :D
(did give me some well needed practice with me new mig welder :D)

I had a look at a mate's tubular bumper and it's 3" diameter tubing - so that's what I've got for mine. Still gathering a few more bits and pieces, then I'll crack on with it. :)

Quick question, is it legal to have a bumper at that angle?

You have given me an idea Buckshot, but don't wanna go cutting and welding if it turns out to be a no no for road use.

I fancy DIY-ing a tubular bumper for my Ninety. :)

Yeah, yeah, I know Google has got hundreds of pictures - but they all show the bumper from the front.

I want to get an idea of what the back looks like and how it mounts to the Landy.

Can anyone help?

Ian.

Hi mate just bought one of these which i am going to fit tomorrow let me know what pics and any sizes you need and can do it for you.

Hiya, That would be absolutely brilliant. I'm not making a winch bumper - just a tubular bumper. But any pics you can take of the back of the bumper where it mounts to the chassis would be superb. I don't think I'll need the dimensions - ultimately it's got to fit the chassis, and I've got one of those :)

well copied it from 1 i saw at the south west 4x4 show on a stand so would think its ok (turned the ends up as have on odd occasions caught the straight bumpers)
the mesh by the way paul is stainless and fook off hard took 2x4.5inch grinder blades to cut that 1 out :D dont think there is any chance a branch is going to go through it and the rad

The angle is not the issue.

Since May 2007ish it has been illegal in the EU to manufacture a non approved FPS bumper with integral A/bull-Bar.

From memory upto £20,000 fine and or 12 months imprisonment.

or is it only if you sell them...?

Probably because you bought the LR with said bumper fitted if questioned ;)

I think you're right about it being only if you sell them.

I was looking at the legal situation yesterday. It seems they were banned following an EU directive in 2005. But this (along with the 2003 and 2007 directives) was repealed in 2009.

The wording is interesting though. The 2005 EU directive told the government to "prohibit sale or entry into service" any non type approved bull bars. Basically saying they cant be used at all. But the 2009 regulation (which replealed the others) is worded differently. It says "Frontal protection systems, as separate technical units, shall not be distributed, offered for sale or sold".

To my mind, that creates a loop-hole for people building their own bull bars.

I guess realistically though, even if you were stopped, the burden of proof would be on the old bill to prove you didn't already have them. And I'm pretty sure they have bigger fish to fry what with all those speeding motorists out there.

considering i probably only use the landie once a month on average cuts down the likelyhood of meeting a over zeluse plod anyway :D

Ya never know, see a straggler all alone ... you might be tempted to test ya bumper....

The plod around here are quite lax tbh with me so far, my front reg plate is stuck in the window half showing and never been pulled for it so far, plenty of road cops around but quite rural anorl so they probably turn a blind eye or i've been v.lucky

I carry the nuts anyway in case the story of it falling off last weekend doesn't work ;)

This is mine.
