If you have a transmission temp sender on with a dead cold or little-driven vehicle then the sensor is most definitely buggered. Not sure where it is on an auto 90 but on auto RRC/D1 it's on the hose going to the oil coooler mounted across the front end - little dingus with two wires running to it.

They do fail - i've had it happen twice on an RRC (not the same car).

ok so thought id come back to the thread with the solution to my problem just incase anyone is has the same problem in the future.

turns out it was the solenoid in the top of the fuse box. the pins have quite a bit of corrosion on them so i just give them a quick wipe, some WD40 an jobs a gooden. cant believe it was something so simple but i'm still learning i guess.

thanks for the replies guys

Many apparently complicated electrical problems can be traced back to either bad earthing or corroded connectors. Simply clean the joint/connector and apply some petroleum jelly to prevent further problems. Dont use copper or lithium grease as they can increase corrosion due to electrolytic action.

Sound advice shifty! Thinking about cleaning everything to be honest, she's quite old and the rest might b in the same condition
