Trolley jack suggestions

I got a Halfords 2 ton (not hi-lift) Jack and Axle Stands for £19 ish when they were on sale ... and they're brilliant (for the price) ...

... and before anyone says a 2t jack isn't heavy enough, then I reply "bollacks". I don't ever intend lifting the whole vehicle with it, just one corner or, at a push, one side at most .. :)
 
The benefits of a 3ton jack is that it has a wider foot print therefore more stable also they lift higher and it may have 'rockel lift'.
It has the power to lift the side or the whole front or rear of a Land Rover not just a corner.
My Sealey 300CXQ is just the job, it lifts just over 0.5 of metre high.

Is 20" enough lift for a disco (1 or 2) from jackable sills? I like the look of the halfrauds high lift jack offer but when I used my old trolly jack (allegedly 15" lift) even with about 4" of wood inbetween it would not lift enough to change the wheels and I ended up having to jack up one corner at a time. Wouldnt have been so bad but I was changing all 4 wheels at the time.

Sorry to thread jack but saved opening a new thread to ask a similar question :)
 
my two ton trolly lift ist good enough, it struggels, and drops the car like a bomb.Get at least a 3 ton.me four ton bottle jack is cushty

why raise it 19" when an inch will do if you were just changing wheels ?

am i missing something
 
I have had jackable sliders fitted and tried using my old 2 ton jack to lift the Disco to fit my m/t wheels rather than lifting 1 wheel at a time. The spec of my old jack says 15" lift (assumed from the floor) and I added a 4" block of wood aswell, even with the jack at full stretch both wheels were still touching the floor so I was wondering if a jack with 20" lift would work (if I used the wood it would be around 24" from the floor).

why didn't you put it under an axle and raise it just a couple of inches ?
 
Thats what I did in the end but I was trying to save time by lifting the side of the car and doing both wheels at once.

Just thinking because i'll be going back to road tyres soon when the weather picks up and only using the m/ts for laning it would be easier if I can get a jack that lifts using the sills rather than jacking up each wheel separately

it's a whole lot quicker and safer lifting it a few inches by the axles and doing them one at a time

rather than buying a cheap and nasty thing from Halfords buy yourself a nice old heavy (and probably rusty) Epco or similar off eBay - then your grandkids kids will be able to use it long after you (and 20 Halfords jacks) are dead and buried
 
We bought the Halfrauds 2.5ton trolley jack and a set of 3-ton stands from RS Comps when they were on special offer.

Does all that we need on the Disco and the Series.

I have 3 ton " JCB " jack which is identicle to the Sealey/Draper ones.

It lifts the car with ease, and feels like it is " boss " of the job.

I can get the car on stands to quite a good height, and its got enough reach to get under the axle for wheel changing.

About £ 55 from my local motor factors.
