Trim levels?

I am considering swapping my tdi 90 (which is great) for a more kid friendly Disco 2 TD5 that could then become my next project with a remap etc. Looking at what's on offer I'm confused by trim levels. I understand the S is the most basic but where does it go from there?
I've also seen special editions like the Pursuit or Serengeti. Are there any of those to look out for particularly? I d guess my Landy is worth about 4k so will be looking at around that price bracket.
 
In 03 the basic model was E then it's S, GS, XS, and ES all were available in 5 or 7 seats.
In 04 the Definitive Editions were Pursuit, Landmark and ES Premium.
Serengeti like a few others was a special edition base on a GS but with some options now as standard.
The ES has always been top of the range in D1 or 2s.

crossmember fine. i just took my storage bins out had to weld plate between inner wing and boot floor.prob why boot carpet wet.also had rear rails replaced,plates between rear upper spring mounts,sills and bottom of rear wheel arch where it meets the sill.and all looked and sounded solid until i started cleaning for a rust treatment and waxoyl.its an 02.

On top of the ES is the ES Premium and then there's the Metropolis but it's very rare and only produced late 02-04

Same vehicle, the Premium was just name change for the 04MY, and some changes in trim, plus bling like stainless steel tread plates there were no ES models produced for that year to be on top off.
All the Definitive Editions were the same vehicle as 03MY but now with a name change and slight changes in trim levels.
Metropolis was again just a GS with a few extras fitted to make it a "special addition" just like other manufactures using a lower spec vehicle plus a few extras as standard and then charge more for it and also help their flagging sales figures.

have you ever sat in a metropolis, it's not a GS with extras lol, it's the only model with all extras as standard, if anything it's an ES with extras, and a seperate sat nav system, (it is very poor system though)
 
When the D1 had its ES Premium it was running boards, contrast piping on the seats, stainless tread plates, a rear centre arm rest and the two badges and the colour looked a bit darker than Epsom green.

I took one for a test drive but couldn't be tempted to part x my ES.
 
I would have thought 10 yr old running boards would be ready for replacement and a 10 yr old satnav would be bettered by a TomTom (if wifes BMW is anything to go on). I like the leather/alacantra seats they do and the better sound system.
