Hi all my drivers side door lock won’t open with central locking since I brought car doesn’t bother me but today when I tried to open with the key I had to do a lot of wiggleing to open it. Would I be Albee to do a simple swap lock for lock. Or do I need to profane the key again

Swap the lock actuator. Its electrically operated and then all doors open on the button.
Swap the key lock and you'll need another key.

Is this pretty simple job to do matey. I realised what I put when I said just swap locks very stupid rushed question lol

Shirley that would depend on whether it is the barrel of the door lock or the actuator that is causing the problem with the key requiring wriggling.

@bane1985 , Is this a D1 or D2? if D2 then be careful with the door locks, they have a monkey metal rod that attaches the lock barrel to the actuator, they snap very easily if abused.

Cheers

It opens with key in door I’ve put some wd40 in made it better. So think this side is the barrel. But it doesn’t open with the fob ps it’s a discovery 2 mate

Then if the barrel is working as it should now, you are back where you started. Probable answer is buy a new actuator as mentioned before or carry on as you have done in the past.

Ok I’ve got one for ya I’ve just been to see if I can get a key cut. They plugged the key in to a machine and said there’s nothing in the key ie immobiliser wise so they couldn’t do it. My reply was then central locking works bar drivers door but I get in and it starts fine. However if I open the central locking get in and don’t start it within a minute or so it won’t start I have to push the button again then I can start it. So there must be an immobiliser in key ryt otherwise why would I have to push key again. He wrekond someone has messed around and to go to dealership. He was talking in £300’s +

Ok will read when home as on phon atm the key works fine as of yet do you think this will cause me problems down the line. Not sure if your saying to get another key programmed.

If you are missing the little yellow block, then the key is from a R75, they have a diifferent immob system.
Using a R75 key fob is fine as long as you remember the immob cuts in after 30 secs if you do not start the car and you will need to press the unlock button again to allow the car to start.

EDIT: always have a spare key including fob for the D2, it makes life easier when the first gets broken.
If you do get either a proper D2 key or a R75 key fob secondhand then a nanocom can be used to program the car to accept either using the 6 digit number printed on the small white sticker on the chip inside the fob.

Won’t a second hand key be different ie the cut bit.

Yep, you buy a new blank to replace the blade on the fob and get it cut at timpsons or similar or just get a key cut and attach it to the fob using a keyring.

Cheers
Ok with you with key cut will the key come with the chip or whatever is needed to program then I just need to link them together with nanocom

Sorry, do not follow what you are saying??

read the attachment linked above, buy a second hand fob, open key fob, write code from the white label inside the keyfob into nanocom and program car to accept new fob, job jobbed.

Buy a new blade off of the bay of e , remove old blade from the 2nd hand fob, fit new uncut blade and take to timpsons and ask them to copy your working key blade onto the new blade.

Now you have 2 working fobs with blades that will unlock your drivers door.

I think I’ve found one mate is this what I need
95C1E7AD-AA46-4654-B848-D63C49C55900.png
then get key cut to match mine then get it programmed by someone to work with my car. Sorry for sounding stupid this tech stuff takes bit to sink in lol

You may find that one may actually be a Rover75 fob, as it does not show the right side to prove it has the yellow block fitted,

Once you read the attachment you will see the difference. But for that price, even if it is a r75 fob, it will still work , just you willl need to rpess the unlock after 30 secs if the immob comes back on.

Cheers
