Trialing the Series 2a

I decided a few months ago that I was going to try a bit of trialing in the series with the local club and sunday was my first trial.
The landy went through the scruiteneering with no probs and then the fun began! All went well and I managed to stay on all four wheels......just!

My mate in his new toy had a bit of a brown trouser moment



I got stuck on this little obstacle on gate 4



And in true Mudslingers style there was a roll (just for a change!)



Had a great time and can't wait for the next one!

Does anyone trial more "normal" Landys?
I only ask as it would be interesting to see how far my lightly modded Disco would get.

I went trialling with my mate last year in his modified (butchered) sportrak and there was a young lad with a pretty standard swb series 2a with a 200TDi lump in it, nowt much else changed, he was doing pretty well. I'd be worried about rolling anything standard and then needing to find a way to get it home again.

you can get this thing called "break down cover" - a lot of insurance policies come with it for free...

It's a great way to get vehicles home again

(or you just drive it back... i've driven home with blown head gaskets, stopping every 10 minutes to top the radiator back up, blown engines which stalled every 5 mintues and drank 25L of oil on the drive home (that was hard work), driven home at night with no lights (with escort) after loosing the alternator earlier in the day, in fact, the only time i needed recovery was when the wheel, hub, and halfshaft exited the axle as i drove down the road.)

This is CCV trials (cross country vehicle) and although there is a standard class you need a full rollcage to compete.
What you need is RTV trials (road taxed vehicles) which is very similar just a bit tamer.
I drove mine 30 miles to the trial competed all day and then drove home 30 miles

As already said, some cracking piccys there.

Never ceases to impress me what these beastys can cope with

Great pic's. I remember my first trial. It is quite exciting as so much is new and challenging, just looking at a piece of ground and then driving it clear is not as easy as it first looks.

Cheers Alan,I was very nervous on the first few sections,don't know why cos I've offroaded for years just not done any trialing,its not as easy as it looks though.
I came 3rd in class and was pleased with that,even more pleased cos Trev in his range rover based trialer came 4th in the same class lol

I was well chuffed for the two of you, because it was quite an "extreme" trial for your first. Saying that it was only my third and I was bricking myself a couple of times !! Just gutted that we had to retire so close to the end.
Hopefully I've attached a pic of dropping into the bomb hole and trying to get out.

Just curious really,be nice to know where it was built and when and if anything is uprated (axles,suspension etc)
