sort of on topic....

I have a 3 door 300tdi and im going to make my own rock/tree sliders. problem is, i wanna buy some flexi arches so i can fit some 33 or 35" tyres. cut the body right back to the extreme of the arch.
So what i need to know is what is the distance between the arches?

Hope this makes sense?
Thanks
Ben

(this is not my disco, i pulled the image from google)
This is the dimention im after, but with large flexi arches (£140 ebay)

a good point.
I should have explained.
Havent got funds to buy the arches yet but i have got to build the rock sliders before the end of the month as i have a free galvanising oppertunity.
Along with my winch bumper.

standard disco is 1700mm
customers with flexi arches normaly ask for 75-100mm off eather end
and are usualy running 33" tyres
sounds a bit od as your doin it arse first
the reson people put cut there arches is to clear big tyres
which then leavs ragy edges so then thay have to put on flexi arches
i persume you intend to cut the arch then find a tyre to fill it ? which is abit odd i wud wait til you hav every thin you intend to put on it arch/tyre wise before you reach for the grinder you have to cut a lot off for those arches you know
the top of the arch is just under the swage line on the body so if you aint got big wheels i wudnt bother cos it wil look like a roller skate

Well I cut my arches and they int raggety?? I just left 15mm on and then folded the metal back into the wheel arch and after a bit of hammering with a pair of lead dressers they are as neat as when they left the factory. :)

Yeah I recently had a disco that had the arches cut back to the same profile as the inner arch tubs. This gave huge clearance, more than I get on mine with the flexible arches fitted.

The problem is you don't know what length you need until you fit the arches, and mine is a 5 door so it might be different. The measurement for mine is 64" tip to tip, and they look like this

I wouldn't want to have them made til the arches are on cos they can be tricky and a 3 door might be different (although I'm sure mine are right cos I took care and they fit proper) but tbh if you want huge arch clearance you can cut much more arch out if you dont fit the extended items. Obviously they give you extra width though.

You will foul the front inner arches and the flexi arches all round on 35s badly without a body lift. I have 33x12.5 on 15x-50 wheels with 3" springs and it fits together just spot on. Tiny amount of rub on full bump, but not bad. I want 35s but cba with all the work, it'll manage on 33s!

Cheers

Mr Noisy:
You are spot on! and i love your disco.

I have 255/85r16 tyres (about 33" but very thin and on standard 300tdi alloys) on at the moment with quite big camel cut front and back with no front bumper. also a 2" spring and shock kit.

You have hit the nail on the head. I want to make the tree sliders now as i can make them for nothing at work and get them galvanised for free. The plan is to get the flexi arches so i can legaly have the Extreme offset wheels and 33" or 35" tyres.

Thanks for your input. very much appriciated. :)

No worries!

www.garageand4x4.com for the bad boy offset wheels, mine were £225 delivered I think

I'd like 35s but it'll be a PITA to get right.

If your making a bumper, you might want to consider 2" bodylift first, then you can make a bumper to fit the lifted body properly. That would be SWEET.

Then with a 3" lift you can run 35s with ease.

And your days will be forever happy :D

Thanks for the link, i did wonder where they came from.

Thats a very good point about the bumper! i will have to factor that in when finnishing it.
Heres a picture from a few weeks ago.
