Hello Nigel, read Hilux handbook carefully re towing weight...my friend bought a super 3.0 D4d auto ,crew cab, with every option to tow his mini digger however on to his horror found towing capacity 2700 kg!! Not enough for digger on 3500kg trailer.....Quick help call and I turn up with battered 1993 Discovery and sorted....Kind of mad as Toyota would easily pull Discovery and loaded trailer .

Towing capacity of Hi-Lux is 2800kg in UK legally but Toyota warranty invalidated if towing more than 2250kg...don't ask me why! Also don't shoot the messenger.

Yes,the Salesman said due to all extras...leather,aircon etc and the towbar!! Towing weight was reduced to 2700kg but he never mentioned the warranty exclusion

i believe its 2700kg which is enough? for my landy my local garage told me this morning..

+1 And make sure your Hilux has got the correct towing capacity, personally I use a trailer hire place in Lichfield as a decent trailer will set you back upwards of 1500 quid for something decent and I'd be worried about it going walk about
Lichfields not too far, im near rugeley, got a number?,

Ive just been doing some research on towing capacity even more reason to keep the old girl on the road these new tin cans might have the power but not the strength I'm guessing. The Mitsubushy Outlander Hybrid thing can't even pull itself by the sounds of it.

Could be wrong but I believe the max towing weight of 3500Kg is the weight of the trailer and the load combined. I would think a trailer capable of carrying a Defender and the Defender combined would exceed that weight. The VOSA weigh bridge is not the best place to find that out.

What Defender are you proposing to tow? A 110 Defender station wagon weighs 2950 Kgs a Utility version 3050 Kgs according to Land rover. Both are way over the Hilux capacity even without the trailer.

101 hard top, its been chopped, van style empty in the back

OK, Take the trailer to the Land Rover then hitch the trailer to said Land Rover, put Jap car on trailer and then drive home....simples!
