The trailer lights work ok except for the brake lights, the Defender ones are ok, the 7 pin socket is good and clean and all looks like proper kit. Using a multimeter I dont get a reading on the brake light pin but it will dimly light up one trailer brake light. Trailer lights work fine on other vehicles. I had a look at the brake light switches under the steering wheel, the one nearest the door operates the Defender lights, not sure if the other switch does the trailer lights or something else? Looked for the earth point but couldnt find it but dont think its the issue as all the other lights work well. Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.
Murray.

Have you checked where the trailer lights connect up to the landrover loom ? May be bad connection there.
Also earth should be in the rear by the lights(depends on what motor you have)

I did pull that connector apart and it looked clean but I didnt try the test meter so will give that a go also will look for the earthing point there, thanks.

The earths from the rear end are taken forwards to the drivers side of the transfer box. Assuming it is the same as the 2.2tdci. I am fairly sure the trailer socket cable plugs into the main harness, behind the rear body panels, accessible from under the vehicle - just follow the cable and pull the flexible (plastic?) panel to one side and follow the cable. Attached a couple of diagrams but note these are for the later 2.2 engine, there are some differences to the 2.4 here and there, especially the fuse numbers used.

If the trailer is fine on something else, my money is on the earth.
have you looked in the back of the tow socket?

I usually spray the plug/socket a few times with contact cleaner and do a bit of in/out jiggle then if that fails I go and cry in a corner I will look elsewhere.

Thanks all, will check the Earth points first and then have another look inside the socket, will be after the weekend as the workshop is full and its ****ing down!
