Transfer box

I've tried the transfer box on my Disco 1 1994 M which has been owned by my Dad since new and I confident that its NEVER been used. It will disengage and definitely goes into neutral and seems to select Low ratio but having driven other vehicles in Low it does not seem to be actually engaging Low! But does engage and drive!
Also when I attempt to engage diff and lock it does not want to go in! I'm reluctant to start applying the "Give it a good hard shove" method cause I know its a ball bag of a job to get it back out and back to high range if it sticks in or snaps the selectors!
Any advice to help me before I get under her and see if its moving the arm underneath and or consider getting iT looked at if it is seized from lack of use!
The only thing I know for certain is that the vehicle was main dealer serviced until 125k and its on 158 now, that said that will have been a good few years ago!

try clutching at the same time to allow some rotation but no torque , linkage may just need adjusting

Tried! Went in smooth as a babies ass! Now it goes in and out free as you like no bother in all 4 modes no bother! Seems to be ok in low but obviously wasn't able to test lock/ diff! Thanks a million for the help. Saved me a load of grief! Appreciate your time.

even in neutral an auto has some drag/drive

So ok then, but the question is...... why can't u move from low to high or in and out of diff lock on the move? there 'could be' a need for u to do that on day.

you can easily with diff lock its designed to, and less so easy with hi/lo as theres no synchro and quite a bit of speed difference between hi and lo

Quite right, for a auto 5mph for low-high which is used by heavy trailer users I believe, and any speed for the diff lock.

I'm out tomorrow looking for a decent place to test the lot! Ill try it on the move! Suffice to say it is defo engaging Low now and I can get it into diff/lock which I couldn't before so defo a step in the right direction! Cheers guys. Ill let you know how I go on tomorrow .

High/Low sorted! Can get it in lock but not Diff! I've tried the Neutral and Park but it does not seem to want to go in! Ill keep trying but in all I'm pretty sure that for the off reading ill be doing that should do me for now! Thanks again for the info!

does lever not push across fully

Yes it goes across fully but won't go forward! Goes back no problem!
