having a bit of trouble with me landy as it wont disengage 4 whel drive. Is it possible that the gearbox is too far forward as the red lever is hitting the bulkhead and not allowing the yellow lever to pop back up or at least thats my conclusion. the lever pulls back into 4wd low and the yellow lever pops up thn i have to hold the yellow lever down to be able to push the red lever back to high but the yellow wont pop back up. really fed up now and use it pretty much daily. any ideas:(:doh:

check nut on the shaft for red lever and pivot bolt

Right just got in from having a fiddle with transfer box. Took the tin cover off and found that the hi/low lever is moving free and the yellow linkage is moving and seem free but the other shaft is not moving at all and is sticking out about 40mm. I have soaked it and cleaned it but no luck question is do i try to get it back in the box or out as i dont want to go hammering and destroying something as thats wot happens when i pick up a hammer.

it needs to move freely but dont push it too far either way the outer shafts pivot on center one and only have a pin and slot connection ,its ok to hammer it preferably with copper hammer or chock of wood

thanks for that does it matter where the levers are positioned when trying to free it.

well thanks to jamesmartin i now have a transfer box that works. Unfortunatley it now wont start. it did start for me to check that the box was ok and i just pulled forward and back a few feet but since then it seems starter motor is stuck. checked all connections and charged battery but it just clicks. would the flywheel have jammed t through working the transfer box free ? tried hitting it and rocking the landy in gear but nothing working.

tried all connections but it is clicking as though there is a power fault unless there is a break in a cable. just thought it was a coincidence that i was playing with box and now wont start.

could be right rattlegun i just put it back on charge and it went from half power to perfect in about 5min.Thanks Dr evil i will borrow a power charger tomorrow and if it still wont start i will take starter off. last resort as its a montego engine and not the easiest to get at.

Right put a power charger on battery (snap on fully charged) and.......NOTHING not even a click checked power to starter and everything ok checked earth straps still ok ...looks like starter gotta come of. not easy in the space i got with the tools at hand.

starter out and tested the technical term is F***ED not engaging or spinning striped it down and one of the brush holders has twisted and jammed up damaging the comm i think its a tdi starter but cant remember i will have to check with dudley engineering tomorrow. Her indoors is gonna go ape if she finds out that im spending more money on it.
