I wonder if it was like I heard, Dextron III isnt compatible with certain seals used in older systems, a bit like many of the oils Citroen use like LHM etc...

I was told once that it had an affect on seals and o-rings so the even though the viscosity is ok, the composition of the oil isnt, or could there be friction modifiers in it that damage friction material in the older boxes etc... bit like what mollyslip and Wynnns did to the old Mini gearboxes...?

Exactly that; it's similar on bikes.....most are very fussy as to oil spec used, as you say, viscosity might be correct, but it's in the composition that matters. Most sports/touring bikes don't like fully synthetic - gives clutch slip, others only run properley on mineral!

Yes your right, Triumph recommended Mobil 1 and I had nothing but trouble running on it, even the oil light would come on when it was hot, went to castrol GP something ? oil and all was fine including the clutch...

That's because they had a sponsorship deal with Mobil a few years back, both promoting each other's brand. No-body in the trade would even think of using that ****e on a bike!

It was a new bike from Fowl-ups down your way and I had to have it serviced by them for warranty purposes, being technical, the last light you want to see on on a bike is the oil light...Try telling Fowlers that at the time...

Yup......that's why they are known as Fowl-up's.......amongst other things lol!

As a point of note, service for warranty is bollox........so long as a "recognised" or better still vat registered dealer/workshop, warranty cannot be made void.

Many this neck of the woods get a bike from a main stealer in town, then go to good local indy thereafter!

GM who are the proprietors of the Dexron brand claim full backwards compatability, so III should they say be fine in a box designed for II but not vice versa.
I can find no reliable evidence that III causes any problems and i have looked at a number of forums covering the subject.

Mmmm all part of the Block Exemption bollocks, which after a second european ruleing is still not working, or being enforced.

I am so ****ed off with diagnostic data I am thinking of starting something in the european court? Its fraud all these diagnostic reader firms can charge for softwear allthough listed doesent work and Land rover is a prime example...?
