Its like a bloody disco in here lights flashing everywhare!

TD5 auto 2001. now and then when i first start up i get the tranny lights on the dash and on the gear selecter flashing! the gearbox defaults to get you home mode (3rd and reverse only).

Ive been told the problem is transmission wind up!? the only way i can stop this light show (jean michell jare would be so proud!) is to switch of and select low range then back to high a couple of times while rocking the car back and forth! it seams to work but you look such a dick in the asda carpark!

Any one got any idears on cause and cure? your input would be welcomed!!

Ade

Get an auto-elec to check your alternator &/or battery output. Limp home mode is one of the things your system adopts when it detects a low voltage in the wiring/ECU/system etc.

Get it on Testbook and look at the reading from the xyz switch on the side of the gearbox, these can fill with water or just fall apart.Rocking the car back and forth after switching off is obviously giving a good enough reading to the gearbox ecu for it to be happy to work.
