Heard back from garage today with regards abs warning / traction failure there exact words are could be 2 things ecu or abs modulator and we think its the modulator ! Price for new one 1500 ouch. May have to get 2nd opion.

Sounds like they are guessing and quoting the most expensive bit.
Have they had it on diagnostics? What fault codes?
What are the symptoms of the problem?

I got ABS/TC faults a lot when my old battery was crapping the bed. £100 solved a heap tonne of issues I was having.

Don't know fault codes speaking to them tmoz the symptoms I had was fitted new battery and alt and hey presto warnings appeared on dash tried all the sensors to make sure they in properly etc. Need to find someone in cornwall with faultmate or similar to have a look myself.

So you fitted a new battery, have you checked the battery voltage?
When you changed the battery you will have inevitably flexed the cables, check the feed to the fuse box at the fuse box for tightness and the the terminal post has not partially broken away from the circuit board.:)

Get it on diagnostics you possibly caused the faults changing the Alt and battery. They may just need clearing.

The garage plug into diag apparently but seems wierd they came up with 2 causes ? Battery voltage checked out ok tested that before going to garage remebered what you guys had said in past. Think I going to take it out of this garage and try somewhere else shame cause they work on lr all the time. Should I be able to get print out of fault codes from garage anyone know.

Could be a coincidental fail but unlikely. You have of course checked all fuses and relays. The alternator is of course the correct unit for your car?

Yes checked all fuses and took old alt with me to get right one the its going may have to scrap car. Shame coz I've done fuel pump coil pack and door locks just destined to drice the pajero for ever.

I had traction and abs fault come up when i did my O rings and found that the wire wasoff the brake light switch worth checking the brake light switch on the brake pedal

Will do. If brake switch faulty I take it brake lights wouldn't work and I know they was cause I checked for mot hence y car in garage may be awhile before can get report I working away for few wks. This car worst than my freelander was.

Also worth checking the voltage drop over distribution cables from battery I had a problem with inner corrosion on battery to starter cable and of course the alt feeds through this I ended up putting a second lead on the starter and a jumper from the battery direct to alt all sorts of issues disappeared but as everyone says without the fault codes tricky to help

We've had a recurring ABS / TF message and it always ends up with either of the front ABS leads needing doing. Last time I checked the spacing on the fixing grommets and it looked like a couple were too close to allow gentle flexing on the steering movments - gave them a tweek and as of now the fault has not come back. I agree with the previous comments - get someone to check the car for stored faults, otherwise you could be chasing the thing for a while. When the car is beeing checked you could always ask them to look at the live data and see what your alternator is putting out. But from my expirience - poor battery voltage would cause the message centre to give you a long list of fuses that the becm thinks are blown... I think we got up to most of them (car still ran and everything worked fine) before this forum came to the rescue and I put a diesel battery in the car.

sorry for delay for this report word 4 word - normal rotation detected on all 4 wheels (internal abs test not a fault) no voltage on ecu pin 1 when ignition on / open circuit to front right outlet valve / no inductive load on front right outlet valve

Sounds like the modulator then, but more likely the ECU or wiring at fault.
