Thank you Nodge68, I had hoped it would have been simpler. the main dealer is 100km. away and charges a fortune, so whom ever buys it can sort it out. Good of you to reply. Malcolm.

You didn't say what year the vehicle is, but you can get a diagnostic device for about £100 which will read the various fault codes on multiple ECUs. When you know the code, you can replace the faulty component and clear the code so the light goes out.;)
