So, if anyones been looking in the td5 section, my engines tried to kill me, a split injector oring ****ed diesel into the sump, causing it to run off on me during the test drive, long story short, if theres anything else broken in it that requires a shed load of work/money, im not going to do it, ive lost confedence in the td5 im afraid, so i will be swapping it, hopefully for the above mentioned HiLux, provided i find a suitable donor.

Questions are:

1: How much for a crashed, scrapped HiLux, 05-present Ballpark?

2: Is it difficult to reinsure after an engine swap?

3: how dificult is it to sort out ecu's, abs, tc and the likes? are the abs and tc seperate to the ecu in the td5?

4: Am i biting off more than i can chew trying to do this?

5: would i be better off mating the g/b of the defender to the hilux engine, or swap the whole lot?

Opinions anyone? :)

why not just buy a hilux

Wouldnt bother, Hilux /Toyota parts expensive and not up for high mileages in my experiences, early 2.4 turbos crack heads for a past time, water pumps wear rads rot senors expensive and start failing with age etc etc

I sold it and bought a proper defender and rebuilt it :p

200tdi SW, turned it into a Crew Cab Pickup

I had a 3.0lt surf and it was the best motor I've had for towing. Backward and forward from uk to Ireland with a loaded trailer and I didn't even know it was on the back. Didn't have the character of defenders so got rid.
