Looking through here and doing the Google rounds I'm getting more and more confused. I have a td4 (plate in pictures) can someone please tell me what weight braked trailer I can tow. Please don't tell me MAM or GTW or ABCD or ACAB it's frying my brain. Please just fill in the blanks from, Your landy weighs (.....) your trailer can weigh up to (......) and the tow bar has a max down weight of (...). Then if we can all join together and get all manufacturers to just write in black and white instead of all the maths inducing codes that would be great xx.

Vehicle unladen is 1600kg.
Gross vehicle weight is 2080kg.
Max braked trailer with vehicle unladen is 2000kg.
Max braked trailer is 1800kg with vehicle laden to gross vehicle weight.
Max unbraked trailer is 750kg.

Don't know down weight.

So empty hippo can pull 2t
Full hippo can pull 1.8t?
Sorry numbers don't wok I my head.

Yes that's how I read it - I've easily pulled another Freelander on a car trailer without problem.

I think that is where GTW came from. A combined figure.I know you don't want to know it, but the GTW is 3800kg.

GTW is 'the maximum allowable combined mass of a road vehicle, the passengers and cargo in the tow vehicle, plus the mass of the trailer and cargo in the trailer.'

I thought the first value was the max gross weight of the vehicle, the second value was the max train weight (car plus trailer)
Thus you can pull 2000kg with a fully laden vehicle

Where does 3800kg come from? I don't see how you can tow a freelander on a trailer with another frelander it would be over 2000kg

If the trailer only weighs 400 KG and it's a 1.8 petrol Freelander on it, it's legal , but in reality, the Freelander is much more capable than the plated weight allows. ;)

According to the plate.
2080 is the maximum vehicle weight.
4080 is the maximum train weight.
This gives you a 2000KG towing capacity, with the vehicle at maximum weight.
The tow bar nose weight is 150KG iirc.

Interestingly my figures were from the Freelander catalogue specs.
Tows another hippo easily, including out of Paignton and up hills!! :D

I have to say that I towed my friend's comparitively light triumph stag on a 500kg trailer. With a total towing weight of around 1,200ish kg I didn't find it overly comfortable.
