when towing my 2.5d sometimes wont go over 40 and will not kick down accompanied by engine overheating next day perfectly normall :(

well, we'll need a bit more info really.... which 2.5 in which RR would be a good start.....

Ok, I suspect more likely to be a fueling issue - fuel filter / lift pump / air leak etc...

Has it got a sedimenter? been cleaned out recently?

if your autobox is low ( I.E. when you have checked it cold ) - might be an idea to change the fluid, unless it has been done recently ??

Hopefully, one of the electronical wizards will be along shortly - cos I now 3/5ths of nowt about electronics

sorry its a p38 dse 1999 normally ok dipped gear box warm engine not running (should be cold engine running) just on dip stick

Sort out gearbox level. Oil cold engine running move through gears a couple of times put in park and dip. Should be near top mark on stick. Made 1998 registered 1999. MY 1999 don't have dip sticks. ;);)

Check the cooling system, check that rad and aircon condensor if fitted are clear of debris. Check viscous fan. If there is a cooling problem obviously towing will show it up. Check everything out. Is rad getting hot all over, top and bottom stuff like that.

Think you would be getting overheated all the time if it had a head problem, as Wammers said, check your rad as per his post and do the rolled up newspaper test on the viscous fan. If you cannot get a newspaper then use The Sun. Get engine hot, try and stop the fan with said newspaper. If you are covered in confetti then it's ok, if not either change the fan or you can do without the fan and use the A/C fans, PM Datatek for details, failing that I think I have a copy somewhere.

Bloke selling off 5 viscous fans for diesels. Genuine Landrover still in boxes on e bay. £60 a piece! e bay no. 281981055465 . Sorry not sure how to do a link?

Glad you enjoyed it, I do bear a grudge, remember Hillsborough. :(

Aye, I do remember Hillsborough - very, very, very sad. Bear a grudge ?!?!??! You and me both.

I have no words of sufficient strength to express my disdain for such "journalism"

By all means do Keiths condenser fan mod, but if you are doing a lot of heavy towing use it as backup for the viscous and not as a substitute for it.
