I have just purchased a towbar from Landrover and the STC 50389 double electrics as when i asked about other electrics parts lad said he had asked his service manager if this electrics would do for towing a trailer aswell as as online states double but on box it states type s?

So question is do i need to still buy type n electrics for towing a trailer and that electrics i have bought will only do for towing a post 99 caravan?

Not sure which kit you have as that part number doesn't seem correct. STC 50179 is supplementary / split charge, 13 pin is 50178, supplementary (S plug) is 50180.

Normally you'll have the 2 sockets - the black N one does all trailer lights (so is necessary if towing an ordinary trailer), the grey S one is caravan specific stuff like fridge, battery charging.

Having said that I converted our caravan to the newer 13 pin system and fitted that to the car and it's far better.

it is kit STC50039 i have which is stype post 99 caravan phone landrover and neither there service department or parts seem to know as i also asked if running s type and n type electrics do i need likes of a double adapter for plugging into the loom at the rear lights has anyone fittied s type and n type electrics to know this please as dont want to hook up to trailer to find no lights work and need to fit s type for towing my caravan.

According to my copy of RAVE that's an auxiliary wiring kit for spotlights etc which is NOT what you want.

It's actually quite easy to fit the N type as there's a connector behind the RHS rear light cluster. I can't actually find a part number for the 12N socket & cable (but they are part of towing kit ANR 6643) and the 12S socket and cable are STC 50180. Again there is a connector in the same area.

Or you can do away with the proper connectors and just use bullets.

was STC50389 lol me and typing

so i am hoping that order the n type electrics and that there are to plugs behind the light unit to plug both into

STC50389 is, as previously said, 12S Caravan Towing Electrics (Grey Socket), for post 1999 Caravans.

It doesn't incorporate split charging on the vehicle, as that is handled on the caravan's internal electrics, after 1999.

This Kit requires the 12N kit to be already installed, as they share connections on the towing pick-up connector C1481 behind the RH upper tail light -

All of the Land Rover Discovery II 12S kits pickup their Permanent Fused Live (cavity 6 - PN wire) and Reverse Lights (cavity 7 - GN wire) connections from this connector.

They come with the correct terminals and seals pre-crimped to their Green and Yellow wires.

The 12N kit's mating connector only uses 7-ways of the 9-ways in this connector, the 2 unused cavities being plugged.

To fit the 12S kit, you remove these cavity plugs and insert the terminals into the 12N's connector.

It's easier to do, if you're installing both 12N and 12S at the same time.

All the other 12S connections are run along the RH chassis rail (in convoluted tubing) to the under-bonnet fuse box, where the additional relay(s) and connections are mounted.
