Towbar Electrics & Wading

Bit of a strange question.... What happens if you're wading and the water goes above the electrics sockets on the tow bar? Mine are below the allowed maximum wading height (I think). Are the standard caravan-type sockets watertight enough for a bit of a soaking as they are?

My towbar is removable but I don't see how this would work without unwiring the electrics sockets that are bolted to it!!!!

Do frequent off-roaders have a different setup? I can just imagine splasing down and then blowing a fuse due to a short-circuit mid-ford!!!

if yer worried about it just wire yer socket in with a plug. then all you need do is unplug it before and blow yer socket dry with compressed air after.QED

as the electrics are only 12v, i believe they will be ok

No way Jose - 12V 150Amps!!? its not the volts that does the damage - its the current (Amps)
The answer is fssst! sniff, sniff, bugger!

Actually it will most likely blow any fuses for the circuits in question - lights, brake lights,etc

yeah winch is water tight but solenoid box isn't

as for towing electrics, its ok getting it wet but its corrosion that will kill it. spray them with WD40, this will repel the water and should stop them corroding

I aint gotta winch - closest I get is Winch-field or Winch-ester mate.
It is, of course, possible to waterproof connectors (IP65 rated) but that is for a pass-through cable connector - not one which is open to the atmosphere such as the towing connector.

Winches mite be sealed units - dunno - not got one.

i can honestly say my tractor has never broken down in all the time i've had it. and it starts first time every time. if only the brakes where finished and it had a body on it.

fancy a freebie body on it - lol?

so yu dont suffer with doors falling off then - nevva thort of that - leave the body orf...

i got the body but its just not in the same barn as the chassis

seriously tho folks - i gather its the only way to get a V8 hippo - put a nice lookin body on a tractor chassis (suitably modded, of course)!

Yep!

"petrolium jelly" very usefull product for protecting elecrical contacts and the like

you only need vaseline if you like to inser............Nope not going there ,zippy might shout!

i think i may hav etold y'awl this before but petrolium jelly can improve yer sex life......you slap it all over the bedroom door handles and the kids can't get in;;
