Tow bars

Hiya guys, I'm doing a little bit of refurbing on my disco and was rather worried to the amount of rot in the main frame of the tow bar. I would have taken pics of it but I need to get it repaired for the weekend. The plate in question looks like a U section and it's where the hitch fits to and it has a V shaped central web welded in that I'm guessing would have been 5 or 6mm like the rest of the frame. It was wafer thin with more holes than a golf course, I welded in some more 5mm plate either side and then painted & refitted it.
