Freelander 2 (LR2) TOW BAR OR NO TOW BAR

Hi all
Looking for some advice on a good solution for carrying my mountain bikes (at least 2), not really wanting a rook mount so what are my best options? I do not have a tow bar, but would put one on if this is the best solution as don;t want all the fiddling around with straps all over the place, I am North East based so maybe someone could point me in the right direction for a reasonably priced fitter if needed and the pro's and cons of doing so

No easy answers mate. We roof mount ours but it's a feck on climbing up there. Others prefer rear mount but they obscure rear vision and can damage your bikes when strapped too tight together !!

Why not get unicycles instead!! Fit in the back nee Botha at all man

I haven't used my FL to carry bikes yet - we usually use the MG ZTT for that (less of a lift to the roof mounted carriers).

I'm in two minds for the FL1 - I think the rear mounted tow-bar carrier would be the best option (I have a tow bar on this car), but already have roof cycle mounts... so...

On balance, if you haven't already got cycle mounts with those costs amortized, then I'd go for the tow-bar mounted carrier.

I'm thinking of getting myself a bike and was looking around at how to carry it.

I like the look of the Fabbri Gringo, it costs more than I want to spend on the bike, but they use Freelander in their photos

They do a Ski rack that has an adaptor kit for changing into the bike rack. Once again, the price is steep, and I only go skiing once in a blue moon, but it looks really good

No good for an F2 though!

Fitting a tow bar is the strongest way to mount bikes. I use my spare wheel in conjunction with a universal rack, but I have a FL1. I also use roof mounted racks, due to the number of bikes I need to carry.

Just get a courier to deliver them to wherever you want to use them. That's what I did when I wanted two bikes in Fort William. It cost a few quid but I couldn't be arsed with all of the kafufle.

FL2... Bike carrier? Don't know. You lack an external spare wheel don't you? Which is a pity as the wheel carrier can be used to carry a few bikes.
I'm buying one on Ebay, for about £75 all in.

Would it be worth considering a small trailer for transporting your bikes?

They can be callopsable.

Isn't that technically illegal though Nodge ? I was stopped by the rozzers once as it obscured rear no. plate.
