Tow Bar for P38

Hi,
Anyone fitted a tow bar to their P38 ?
If so any hints and tips around how long it takes.
Also on the assumption you did not buy the genunine part who is the best supplier ?

TBH Tony i have never fitted one before, but i think its best to get the correct one (for a RR) and i think parts of it connect to the chassis, but i would say no more that 1 hour + the electrics

A fraction of the cost of the genuine kit and it meets all the type approval requirements
Very easy to fit - remove the rear bumper (couple or three bolts underneath and a clip either side) then all the components simply bolt in to holes already there for the job
Excellent fit and a bit more discreet than the swan necks IMHO
I did however use a genuine parts wiring harness which simply plugs in behind the offside rear light cluster rather than cut/join wires
I got the harness from Paddock's or Martin Motors - can't remember which now but I suspect most of the suppliers will get it for you
Have towed a 2.5t digger with it no problem at all

I fitted the OEM towbar and the hardest job was removing the rear bumper with all the crap that had built up in the nooks & crannies after that the fitting was a doddle. Are you looking to fit a 12S socket for caravan towing? as this will take longer as you will have to run cables via fuses from the battery to the rear end and will require removal of some interior trim in order to route the cables safely to avoid chafing etc.

The wiring I got on e-bay (genuine bits but not in Land Rover packaging) from DLS for £45.99 delivered.
I ordered the towball itself separately from Witter and that cost another £7.64.

All towbars now have to be type approved, and car manufacturers by law have to supply the dimensions of where the tow kits have to fit so you shouldn't (bar shoddy workmanship on the tow kits manufacturers side) have a problem fitting the parts.

WRONG WRONG WRONG

All towbars fitted to any vehicle registered on or after 1st August 1998 have to be type approved. If a vehicle is older then any towbar can be fitted. which is why scorpion et:al can sell their demountable towbars, which are not type approved. They just say they're for older vehicles.

Redhand is correct in saying that all towbars fitted to vehicles after 1st Aug 98 have to be type approved (mine is a 99).
The rest of my statement still stands!

Wasn't having a go just the way it read it looked like it said ALL towbars had to be type approved not just the ones supplied for post 98 vehicles. You can still supply and fit non type approved towbars to pre 98 vehicles.
