Torx

hi can anyone help .. looking for the torx bit for the maf sensor ..tried some me dads that he as for work but no good . but there not mechanic ones tho ..looked in halfords .but guy behind counter was not very help full

I also searched in all kinds of shops, even specialised autoparts shops, and couldn't find the special 5-star Torx, therefore I took a small hacksaw (see att. picture) and saw a split in the two screws retaining the MAF sensor. One screw I could tackle almost normally but the other one I couldn't reach with the hecksaw complete so I took the blade out of the holder and hold it with a piece of cloth so that I could saw also the second screw. Now I can just use a flat screwdriver to remove the MAF (for the annual cleaning as prescribed by ming).

I knew you were going to ask that so not only because you did but MAINLY to please ming, as I know he's eager to see pictures coming from the two of us...

Now I know I'm risking a "ban" from ming for telling uncle Albert stories but I have to tell a small anecdote of this kind of screwdrivers. Back in the '60's, when I had my Morris Mini 850 I had such a small yellow screwdriver you had to keep in someplace and push on the copper top to see whether the small bulb in the handle got lighted up to indicate there was power. In these days I even knew less about cars and electricity as I do now so in all my "wisdom" (for the older members, not Norman Wisdom, who I admired those days by the way) I pushed that tip onto a spark plug cable while the engine was running, just to see whether that screwdriver did work allright, and then I pushed on the top, I got a blow up to my elbow and the next minute I threw that screwdriver in the fields as far as I could. Never tried out such a thing anymore afterwards, not on high tension ignition systems anyway. Bl.... he.., that hurts....

Yes, looks like eh ? All my screwdrivers are multitask ones you know, sometimes I even use them as schisel when cutting in wood etc.... (my wife even uses them to cut in concrete... )

the 5 star torx is used mainly in electrical items today ,i bought er set from rs and one of them fits the maf captoin. . .why they used that standard i jist dunt know , will, mondo ,yella . . . .er git a life

Screwfix do a Torx set - great for the freelander cos not only does it have torx bits but it also has torx sockets too for things like ya prop !!

it was about £25 for the set
