Too keen with the angle grinder

Ive just changed my drag link and track rods for nice heavy duty ones. Removing one of the old track rod ends, i ended up having to grind the nut off and ive caught the hub... See pictures! Oops. Anywhoo, I havent gone all the way through. Do i need to fill weld this or will it be ok as is? If i do need to weld it, is there anyone near by to me in north lincolnshire who can weld it for me please?

One things for sure, you cant drive that as it is

Looks worst than it is. Its not gone through, just caught. Theres still plenty of metal on it.

Change it, that's now a weakness and could break

Looks deeper than a scratch to me. I wouldn't want to be responsible for what happens if that gives way ......

Might not be all the way through, but what you've created is what used to be called a "stress raiser". Any stress on the joint, and there's a lot, will be focussed on that gap, causing the rest of the metal to flex, harden, and fail:screaming_bug_eye_f

Point taken guys, ill source a replacement. Are they hard to change?

Im afraid that is dangerous like that. I advise you change the whole part rather than messing around trying to weld it up.

If you try welding it your looking at a MOT failure for sure as a inadequate repair

Replace is the word here
Nothing good came of welding cast items you need to pre heat the material it's a chew
And probably more expensive than a replacement part

Plenty of breakers with axles available, I wouldn't use that as it is.

ive an old 300 axle i can take steering knuckle off if you cant find one

next time cut the track rod off with the grinder horizontally..... how on earth u had the blade at that angle??? and 'just caught' generally means a visible mark not a slice like that lol... still lesson learnt and at least u have heeded advice

Yea i think you must write half the descriptions on Ebay from bits i look at. That description of I just caught it, I think not! HAHAHA!

Sorry but unlucky! Replace part and learn a lesson.

I think the OP has a D2, totally different mechanically I'm afraid.
