following on from my last thread
new water pump, new viscous new fan
now runs at the end of the white section on the temp guage, and then rises the further you travel
thermostat is opening and working fine
garage said they checked for the usual signs of head gasket failure but could see none.it runs spot on and i left it runnin for about 45 mines and the needle sits at the end of the white bit

as soon as i take it for a drive it rises beyond and up into the red
rads been jetwashed about 3 times
trouble i dont want to keep throwing money at it as its a 2.5 td and eventually when i can afford it a 200 tdi will be going in

but spending £a bit of dosh rather than £1500 for a fitted tdi is better
but if ive got to spend £300 to fix the td then that could go towards the tdi

any ideas anyone ??
this is seriously getting me down now
i havent driven it in about 3 weeks
iwas that bored i even cleaned it inside and out

not sure?
all i know is you cant touch the exspansion bottle its bloody hot and theres evidence of water escaping out of the overflow pipe although only spits by the look of it
the 1st time it overheated water was ****ing out and steam everywhere this was down to the water pump

DO NOT JET WASH THE RADIATOR.

Run a hose pipe over it on normal flow alternating from hosing one side to doing the other. If you jet wash it you wedge the mud in harder and also damage the fins. It took me a couple of hours to get the mud out of my radiator a couple of months ago when I had been playing on salisbury plain.

The guys at work wouldn't believe that I had only hosed the radiator when they saw how much mud I had on the floor.

It could also be that getting it as hot as you have has made the loose rust and silt shift and block the inside or the rad too. I had this problem aswell following the clogged external fin problem.

trouble is rac checked it when the water pump was leaking and he said it was fine drove 2 miles and overheated,so thats when it went into the garage to have the pump done and they also put new viscous and a range rover fan on as its a bit bigger,,,so i am totally f**ked as to what it is will try a new or 2nd hand rad 1st and see what happens unless anyone else has any other ideas??

I had a similar problem with a N/A and ended up changing thermostat, sender and then the rad as it was looking a bit dodgy but still had odd problems with the temperature which in the end turned out to be the gauge. Nothing visibly broken but just shagged. New gauge (second hand) and problem solved!

Before this the gauge would sit slightly hotter than norm but then shoot into red at various stages when driving when in fact it hadn't overheated at all.
