what i'm thinking is get a resitor thingy m bob to cut the power down, inline with a stat (dunno how hot i need it to come on, prolly about 40 degs c) through the relay that swaps between car when ign is on and webasto if ign is off!!

sounds like a plan to me!!

now what thingy m bob do i need and where/what stat???

You can get an adjustable stat from www.cpc.co.uk part number HG00266 £12.08 + VAT. Just tape the sensor to the top hose and wrap a bit of foam pipe lagging over it. Works well. :D

Gav, I have just been out to the workshop and checked, I purchased 2 of these sensors last week, 1 for Rangie to operate the electric rad fans and 1 for my Transit so I can fit an electric rad fan. They are a simple switch operated by a capillary sensor, the is a common, a normally open contact and a normally closed contact. They are rated at 15amps 250 volts AC but will operate reliably at an amp or so 12 volts DC. The picture on the CPC website is misleading as it shows more contacts than actually exist unless they have changed the spec in a week! I think they are cheap cos the dial is in Fahrenheight not Celcius. Hope that helps.

i may or may not have burn the ocb out, i cant get to it at the moment but there was smoke, hopefully i can repair it.

i am well fcuked off with it tho!!!

turns out i had connected a wire to the body of the unit by accident. it was cooking the plastic of the wire so hopefully disaster averted. meanwhile i have ordered the proper wiring loom and timer. i'm gonna look round for another unit tho, just in case, i have seen a doozel one, i think i will get it and i can always slap a small red doozel tank somewhere!!

Get yoursel a doozel engine to go with it and you can have reliability as well:p:p:p

i think its my erratic car mods that are unreliable, imagine if i had loads of dosh, the things i could waste my time on!!!

as soon as my lotto numbers come up i'm going on dragons den with some ridiculous invention that everyone will buy but wont know how to fix cos i won't tell em. and i'll make sure it breaks by design and i'll be the only one to fix it and charge silly amounts for the priviledge.

**** landrover beat me to it!!! (except the dragons den bit)

after all the slagging of about having anything to do with diesel, you have finally seen the light have you gav.:D:D:D;)

not seen the light, learned to adapt my thinking, after all the doozel is not for moving the car (b'cos it doesnt do that very well does it, diesel) its for warming it, which is the best use for heavy oil!!
