To synergy, or not to synergy???

Right peeps,

I want to stick a synergy mod on my L series hippo... Need all you clued up land rover bods to tell me the following

1) does it give you that much more power & or Torque?
2) Does your fuel consumption take a dive?

I would also like anyone on here to leave a comment on here if they have fitted one and weather its run fine, or caused no end of problems.

Im a little hesitant because my wife had a 56 astra CDTi up until a year ago.. It ran fine, was super on fuel and was pretty bullet proof until the engine management light came on.. 4 visits to different specialists, 4 different errors, 4 different repairs and £1040 later, i chucked in the towel and got rid of it... Now i never modded it, so it wasnt coming on cos of that, but ive read a few threads on here about people having their engine management light on their hippos coming on after fitting a synergy box???

My hippo is great (touch wood!) no lights on das = 1 happy wife.. She's all for me giving the hippo a bit more oooommph :D, but doesnt want to be driving around glancing down at the dash every 30 secs expecting that dreaded light to come on!!!!

please peeps, feel free to leave a comment with any problems youve had if you've been running one.

Ta :)

As you know the l series is not very nippy !
Iv owned one myself and after fitting the synergy, it made it feel like a new car !
Much more nippy !
Fuel never really changed for me, but if driven well it does return more MPG then before the synergy. It also depends on what setting you have the synergy on.
I had mine set on high for the 2 years I owned the car and there was no engine problems at all.
Would highly recommend one
Well worth the money :)

My 05 TD4 has been fitted with the Synergy 2 with Pierburg MAF on setting 7 for the past 3 months.
Not too sure about fuel economy but engine runs much smoother thru the gears.

hiya

ive got a 2002 td4 auto and fitted a synergy , made it a completely different car,

alot more responsive, smoother, quieter

mine is on 175,000 miles and fingers crossed with the aid of the synergy sits on 80 mph with no problem.

would recommend one and also ron is extremely helpful before and after you buy one.

set mine to setting 2 with the maf switch off, still got the bosch maf fitted

gary

2003 TD4

I have synergy 2 and pierburg maf set on number 7 - pulls really well and drives well with it - it has improved the smoothness and performance. I get 34 mpg with 64 ml motorway commute at 70 - 80 mph plus a bit of town and round and about stuff.

Thanks chaps for all your advice... top stuff as always! Looks like its an overwhelming YES to the synergy, so my hippo is in for a treat and as ill give rover ron a bell tomorrow!

How long does it take to fit, and is it relaitively straightforward??

I imagine i have to tell my insurance company about it... Can i expect to get smashed on my premium (0 points, 7 years NCB, married with kiddywinkles, average milage per annum)

Ta chaps,

:D:D

YAY !

Lucky HIPPO of yours !

The synergy VP (for the L series) takes 10 mins to fit - theres only one plug to connect in and two wires to splice.

easypeasy to install - Roverron sends good instructions anyway !

i never bothered telling my insurance company as i was 17 at the time and driving a freelander was expensive enough on the insurance !
just be carefull and dont have a smack lol
:p

I agree with all the above. I fitted a VP to my L-Series about a month back and it's been great! I've got it set quite high and have also blanked the EGR and shortened the actuator to increase boost in line with Ron's advice and the MPG hasn't changed but I can comfortably drive a gear higher in most situations now! Much more comfortable and fun to drive with increased torque for technical off road sections and overtakes!

Just out of interest I had a synergy fitted to my astra CDTI for a year and then on my focus TDCI and both ran much better and faultlessly.

Well recommended
