Hello my darlin's,

Thought I would kick off with this beauty. My 1979 Lwt 2.25 stage 1 is used mostly for laning! Is it worth fitting Parabolics or do I stick with orig.leafs.Also is a de-carbon steering damper worth fitting over original oil type! That should do it!

Got Parabolics and gas shocks on me old '59 88". No difference on the road (its still crude) but off road vast improvement. Seems to neutralise initial shocks n jolts. Brass well spent. The cheaper the damper the better s'far as i'm concerned.

Thanks Jon,

Most advice seems to suggest that off road there is a vast improvement. Its a toss up at the moment whether to go down the parabolic road or convert(more expensively) to coil sprung suspension.

When you say off road are you trialling or laning?

Cheers Mark

Yeh Dude go PARA they are alot better and less hastle. They have alot less chance of rusting stuck. If its a lightweight it will be rough ride but I have a parabolocks on the back of my s3 and vast improvment. On the road if you get weight in the back all the kids then it rides like a dream ( WELL FOR A LANDY ).
Off road they flex more when you need it and keeping more tyre to the mud ( LESS WHEEL SPINNAGE ). I think there is a mixed opinion about parabols as there are diffrent makes.

May be we need to find out who has the best parabolocs...haha.

Cheers mark, thanks for the reply. Be vigilant if youre considering a coil spring conversion. I should know having fallen foul of Plod and DVLA over my last beauty (Series 2 V8 coiler). Despite any other advice, leaf to coil conversion is regarded by the powers that be as "Radically modified". The vehicle in question then requires an SVA test if converted. Theres a total of 14 points after "Surgery" of wich you must retain 8 to keep your vehicles identity thus avoiding SVA.

5 points for chassis - original spec and umolested (no suspension mods)
2 points for both original type axles
2 points for original spec springs (paras classed as original type)
2 points for original type steering assembly
2 points for original type transmission
1 point for original type engine.

You gotta retain 8 to avoid SVA and "Q plate". Go for paras, its less hassle and its legal with no grey areas mate.

In answer to your question I do a bit of non competetive with my local LR club and a bit of laning when I can. What with living in the Derbyshire Dales I'm spoilt for choice mate. If you need a bit more clarity regarding coils and the authorities by all means drop me a line. 01773 825725
