Hi all, i had a problem with fuel getting into the sump on my disco 2. tried the injector seals and that didnt solve it so splashed out on a turner developments head.

i noticed when i did the injector seals i could never get the two brass links on the chain to line up with the mark on the camshaft pulley.

iv just came to fit my new head and trying to line up the timing marks and it wont line up! iv done 10 full revolutions thinking it may move a link across a time or something? (clutching at straws)

the engine still runs fine and drives fine so the timing is correct, its just asthough the timing chain has been taken off or replaced in the past and not put back on in the correct place.

now, my problem is locking the engine at top dead centre, my theory is that i can lock the camshaft off a certain point say first valve at highest lift? (or where?) and then proceed to lift the head, then rotate the engine to make sure first piston is at top dead centre and lock that off too so i know its exact!

will there be any issues doing it this way? obviously do the normal two full rotations of the engine afterwards to check for valve or piston contact to double check.

any ideas? suggestions? words of advice?

cheers all

It's the locking tools you need to check the timing properly, most chain marks never seem to line back up unless you spin the over loads of times
