Recently acquired a Disco 1 with 148k on the clock, was told the timing belt was changed at 139k but I'd like to have a look at it to see if it is in good condition.

Going to get the socket set out tomorrow, I'm going at it blind so wondering if there is any heads up anyone can give me first?

Cheers!

Only problem you may have is if any of the gaskets need renewing when you strip it down. Personally I would be changing it wile I had it stripped down anyway as there not that expensive.

theres no point, if you are inspecting it just change it, by the time you have stripped enough back to get the cover off its almost job done new dayco belt and tensioner £50 a timing chest gasket and crank seals. Dont mix up the timing chest bolts, might as well do the water pump whilst you are at it again nearly there once you have drained the water to get to timimg belt new quality pump £30.

Just watched a video on it, seems a bit out of my league (at the mo) especially as the car is my daily driver :(

If you're going to the trouble of looking at it, change it, no matter what. If, as it sounds, you have no idea what you are embarking upon, do a lot of research, buy or download a manwell. Good luck. :)

+1 checked mine and it was or at least looked new, but so cheap why take a chance? I replaced water pump as well as although seemed ok it had a tad play on it so now its a spare.
Peace of mind my friend, well worth a few quid :)
Get a good manual and check out on here for advice, its not a hard job but allow a weekend if ya not sure :D

I will invest in a Haynes next payday, he said all fan belts were changed and to be fair they do look new
